*BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP*

Groaning, I slam my hand down on the alarm, sending it a death glare for bringing me out of my paradise. Who wants to get up at 7:00 am?? Rubbing my eyes and finally realizing the time, I shoot up out of bed, making my way to the bathroom to get a shower.

Today is the day! The day that I start my new job forScandalous, only the hottest magazine in the world! Okay well, maybe not in the world, but definitely my dream job. I’ve been working my ass off for this position since I was a little girl, so for today to be the day my dreams turn into a reality, I can’t help but feel a sense of victory.

Getting dressed in a knee length pencil skirt, with a white cameo and a long sleeve pink sweater, I check the time to see that I had thirty minutes to finish getting ready and make it to my new boss’s office. I slip on my nude heels and tied my long blonde hair up in a messy, but cute, bun. Grabbing my keys, laptop and purse and walking out to my blue Volkswagen Beetle.

My parents had gotten me my car for my high school graduation and I fell in love with it. To say that I was blessed with sweet parents would be an understatement, they were the absolute best. Always supportive and always there to give me advice when I needed it. I loved them with all my heart. Sighing, I pull into the first available spot, and jump out, locking my car in the process and heading to the door.

Walking in through the door, it was even more glamorous than the first time I was here. There, hanging from the ceiling, was an enormous sparkling chandelier. To my left was a luxurious beige couch, set in place for people to sit as they awaited their appointments. In the center of the room was the receptionist’s desk with a pretty girl managing the computer. I give her a polite smile and bypass her, heading to the elevator to ride it up to the 20th floor. Before I could hit the floor number, I hear a deep voice shout out, “HOLD THE ELEVATOR!”

Shooting my arm out, I wait for the man to step into the elevator. When he did, I drop my arm and look up to him to see him already smiling down at me. He has to be at least 5′9, with dark brown (almost black) hair, and striking blue eyes. He is wearing a blue suit that screams sophisticated, however he has his top three buttons undone, giving a preview of the defined chest that lies underneath of his white undershirt.

When my eyes meet his, he gives me a devilish smile, “Thank you for holding the elevator. Although, I’m sure you are glad that you did now.” My cheeks heating up, I cough and looked away, embarrassed that he had caught me checking him out.

My first day and I’m already checking out men on the job. Pull it together Adalynn, damn it. I clear my throat and face forward, “You’re welcome.” I comment to his previous statement. Watching the numbers change, I could feel his eyes on me.

“Are you new here? I’ve not seen you around before.” He asks.

“I am, actually. I’m the new journalist.” I answer, pride evident in my voice. I glance at him to see him studying me. Looking me up and down.

“Huh, wouldn’t imagine a pretty woman like you to be into journalism. My name is Jaxon.” He holds out his hand, I took it politely, shaking it firmly.

“Adalynn.” I state simply.

Jaxon smiles at me, “Adalynn... I like it.” Giving me a wink, the elevator dinged, alerting us that we were at the 20th floor. I swallow the nerves, trying to regain my composer before stepping forward.

“Well this is me, nice to meet you.” I state professionally, getting off the elevator. Before the doors closed, I could hear Jaxon respond,

“The pleasure is all mine.”

Smiling, I make my way to the office that I remember to be Mr. Blake’s, and knock on the door. I hear a grunt, followed by some shuffling of papers, “Come in,” a gruff voice spoke. I walk in to see a tall blonde woman, shirt half buttoned and hair sticking up at all ends, situating her skirt. Mr. Blake cleared his throat, drawing my attention to him, to see that he is completely shirtless.

Before I could drool over the well-defined muscles of his abdomen, I turn away, “Oh my gosh, I am so sorry! I was told to come in here when I got here. I’m so sorry, I will just be right out here!” I rush out, speeding out of the office and against the wall. I can’t believe I just walked in on my boss doing--- I don’t even want to think about it.

Ugh! He is sure to not like me now, I ruined his good time. Great! Just what I needed, for my boss to hate me on the first day. Dropping my head into my hands, I take several deep breathes before I hear his door open. I pick up my head slightly to see the blonde walking out, giving me a look that clearly meant she wants me to drop dead, and walks to a room on the other end of the office that had “Ms. Piper” written on the door.

When I look to my right, I seen Mr. Blake, with his shirt on but still not buttoned all the way up, smirking at me with raised brows. “You can come with me now, Ms. Pepper.”
