Chapter One
Penny woke up in her room, got up, and opened the window to a fresh breeze and birds happily chirping their song. She looked at herself in the mirror and noticed her cat, pepper, calmly sitting on her bed staring at her. Penny softly smiled at Pepper, as Penny then lied down his head back onto the bed and continued to sleep. It suddenly came to her that she should get ready for school. She put on her usual outfit, a sweater and jeans, and prepared herself to go downstairs and deal with her mom who would usually offer her a buffet of food. After hopping down the stairs, she looked into the kitchen and to her surprise, a breakfast wasn't made as her mom would usually be sitting at the table drinking coffee, waiting for her. Because of this, Penny slapped some bread in the toaster and was about ready to make coffee for her mom before her dad came in.
As he hobbled down the stairs, he yelled, "Penny have you seen your mom?"
She replied, "I could walk or ride my bike."
"It's raining," her dad argued, "call a friend to take you."
Penny sighed, but agreed, "Okay, I'll call Hannah." After this, she called up Hannah on her phone, and not too soon she proceeded with her backpack outside and waited for Hannah to come. Suddenly, as she was waiting, Penny got a call from Liam, another friend. Penny looked at her phone confused and picked up the phone. She answered it with, "Liam?? Why are you calling?"
Liam responded, "H-hey," he seemed nervous as he talked. He never had called Penny before, but they have sometimes texted. Other than that, however, they didn't talk much through the phone.
As Penny heard him she was smiling very brightly, she responded, "Oh hi. This morning my mom went to work and my dad is going to work early so now I'm waiting for Hannah to pick me up." She laughed, still smiling as she talked, "there's so much rain outside. Sadly though, I have no umbrella."
"Do you want me to come? I'm closer than Hannah."
Penny's face suddenly got very red. She was unable to turn him down, so she replied, "Sure. That would be nice, I'll tell Hanah she doesn't have to come?"
"O-ok. I-I'll be over."
""Thank you! See you when you get here?" As Penny said this she was very happy, and felt like jumping up and down, but she acted cool over the phone.
"S-see you." He hung up the phone.
Penny called up Hannah, "Hey sorry but Liam and I were talking over the phone and now he's taking me to school."
"How you feel 'bout that, huh PENNY?" Hannah asked teasingly.
Penny got extra red, "SHHHHHHH! Shush u peasant" she said as she laughed.
Hannah laughed. "See you at school."
"Kay bai" Penny said, and as soon as she hung up, she squealed into her jacket sleeve. She then sat down quietly and suddenly Liam was already pulled up to her house with a car. Surprised to see him so soon, she said, "Wow that was fast!! How close do you live?!?"
"Oh I just live a street down," Liam replied, his face tinted red.
Penny got into the car. "Thanks for coming, by the way," she said shyly as she slightly blushed.
Liam looked at her and then looked away, "Oh yeah it was no problem, really." He smiled.
Penny looked out the window, both Liam and Penny looking away awkwardly. Suddenly Penny said, "I never thought it would rain so much today. Yesterday the weather was great, the sun was out and it was warm, now it's rainy and cold."
"Heh, yeah. But yo- it's really pretty when it rains. The puddles reflect and everything." He got really embarrassed.
Penny smiled and jokingly said, "Too bad I'm gonna be soaking wet today. I couldn't find any umbrellas." She let out a small laugh.
Liam thought for a second and said, "I have an extra in my trunk- unless you don't want it... that's fine too. You may not even need it, it may only be raining in the morning but taking it would be great- I'm rambling." He laughed gently.
Penny suddenly got really embarrassed, "No no no it's fine! You already drove me to school. I don't need to snatch your umbrellas too." She looked out the window as her face was tinted pink.
"No I insist. We're friends, friends do anything for eachother, right?" He bit his lip and began strumming his fingers. They finally arrived at school.
Penny looked outside for a second and hesitantly said, "...it would be helpful then."
Liam's face lit up, "Here," he handed it to her, "if you want and have time after school I can drive you home and maybe we could work on homework, totally cool if you say though."
Penny got happy at the thought, "You're so nice, why not do that then. But we gotta go to class soon. What's your first hour?"
"Oh m-mine? It's uh English," his smile was so big that it made Penny feel joyful inside.
She laughed, "I have science, which has English on the way. Wanna walk to class together?"
"YES- I mean yeah sure," he turned so red he could practically picture Anna yelling, 'SO RED' as she does to Hannah. He then rubbed the back of his neck. The two of them then walked to class, Penny skipped as even her skipping, Liam towered her.
Penny suddenly said, "Oh my heck I realized you're like way taller than me."
Liam silently blushed, making penny think, How much more red can we get He said, "Oh yeah, heh I guess I'm just really tall. I mean- I'm almost Hannah's height." Liam reached class, and as he entered the two waked bye to each other and Penny quickly walked to class. Hannah and Aiden suddenly came out of nowhere.
Hannah immediately yelled, "HEY PENNY" and tackled her.
Penny's heart jumped, "JEEZ I DIDN'T SEE YOU COMING, WHAT ARE YOU TRYNA DO, GIVE ME A HEART ATTACK?!?" she yelled with the biggest smile on her face. Aiden slightly laughed at the high beings.
"TOO BAD" Hanna yelled forcing Penny into a hug.
Aiden suddenly reminded them, "You know class is starting soon," and the two looked at him.
"Shut up, I'm having moments here," Hannah gently smiled at him, "anyways he's right, we should go. See you Penny." They all walked to their classes.
