Silas 1- Smoke

“Shit.” I almost lost my footing and I had to recover. Thank God for our reflexes or I’d probably be dead by now.

“Hey! What I tell you about cursing?” My best friend retorts in annoyance, I do tend to curse too much.

“Well technically Nik, there was shit on the floor, it’s why I tripped. I was trying to skip over it.” I smirk when there’s a beat of silence afterward.

“Silas, you’re really annoying, you know that right?” He sighs in exasperation.

“Yeah, I know.” I laugh, “Let’s just finish this before my father trips out.” We were going to mess with some vamps of the queen’s coven, just a little smoke bombs we’d made.

“Remind me again why I agreed to this. You’re father would kill me if he found out I let you do this... again.” The last time was pretty hilarious, of course we made sure no one actually got hurt but since my Dad is head Alpha of all the packs and the werewolf species represented in the council of supernatural species combined, he heard about how we were seen at the scene and he knew we had done it. Those weeks of cleaning stuff out entirely was tiring.

“Because these aren’t powder bombs, the smoke bombs will leave no trace.” I made sure of it.

Niklaus sighed in defeat, “Fine but if you get caught you’re on your own. I’ve already got my backup incase I have to prove I wasn’t here.”

We continued to run until we found the perfect spot to hide and throw the smoke bombs in. Their coven house was more like a castle but there was a single window open. “Okay,” I whispered, “you’ve got yours ready?”

I heard the wrinkle of a bag before he replied, “yeah. I’m ready.”

“Okay on my count.” I let the air slow my breathing as I let my sonar reach out to make sure no one was where they shouldn’t be. That was my ability, like a detector in my brain that allowed me to sense where people are. Nik’s ability allowed him to find the perfect way of fighting for each person he came up against. He is going to be my Beta as soon as I take over Alphaship. Us together, unstoppable. We were clear... at least in front, I pulled out the bomb. Although now I’m sensing some movement about 3 kilometers east, we’ve got to do this fast. A smell caught my nose for a moment but I shook it off. It was sweet whatever it was, maybe we’re by the kitchen or something.

“Silas...” Niklaus was getting anxious.

The smell caught me again but this time stuck. I used my sonar again but this time it seemed to waver. Something was disrupting it. “Shit.” I huff underneath my breath. My wolf that I keep very wrapped up was starting to try and claw out. I never named him because he never listened to me anyway.

“Silas! Dude!” I couldn’t reply because I was trying to fight my beast of a wolf. “Forget this man I’m leaving.” I heard him run off just as the smell got even closer and my heart started to palpitate.

“Fucking stop!” I growled at my wolf. I was always stronger than him when it came to control but he’s pushing extra hard.

“Who’s there?” A melodic voice encased around me but I knew it came from the east, it was that person I felt before. My wolf pressed harder against me as I felt my breathing become short and shallow. My claws extended without my approval puncturing the smoke bomb in my hand. The smoke busted out forcefully sending me back a couple feet as the smoke exploded rendering my breath useless. I began to cough unbearably as he pushed even harder against me, I was losing control.

My back was the first to break and try to remold itself but I forced it back, a cry ripped through me as he tried again.

“Hold on I’m coming!” The woman had said. She appeared in front of me and my wolf finally stopped clawing me. She had beautiful sun kissed skin and her eyes were a hazel. Her hair a honey blonde that fit her so perfectly, her skin effortlessly flawless. She was a beauty, the most beautiful woman I ever saw. “Are you okay?” She asked as her scent invaded my nostrils as I breathed deeply. I tried to get up by my legs were failing me. She looked down before her nostrils flared, “you’re bleeding.” I tried to reply but I could not speak. She shook her head, “Father forgive me.” She leaned down and touched her lips to mine. Fireworks lit within me costing my entire body, it captured me. It seemed she couldn’t stop herself but I could finally move. I sat up and deepened the kiss holding the back of her head. All pain subsided and the world disappeared from existence. A moment of absolute bliss.

When we released to catch our breath I couldn’t help but to stare at her star struck. “Mate.” My wolf howled in my mind and it echoed in my head. He never really talked but this was the first time I actually agreed with what he said and honestly I did not want that kiss to end.

“I—” she couldn’t seem to really say anything. She just sat there while touching her lips. “I never felt that... no never.” She seemed to be in denial. “With a wolf?” Her statement to be aback but then I realized, I could not hear her heartbeat.

Oh no.

“You’re a—”

“Vampire.” She replied.

I pushed my body back in resentment. “No no no no no... A vampire is not my—“

“We’re mates.” She replied reluctantly. She seemed within her own mind too.

“But— no this can’t be happening!” My wolf growled at my response to this information. He did not care about the repercussions, this was his mate and he will love her anyway.

“My father will kill me.” She mumbled and I couldn’t stop the snarl that fled from my mouth.

“No one will kill you. I won’t allow it.” That I meant, no matter how this might turn out. She looked up at me sadly shaking her head before vanishing.

I got up looking down for a spilt second, she healed me. “Wait I didn’t even get your name!” I yelled into the wind.

“Zoie.” Was a whisper I heard before the wind decided to pick up and I could hear nothing but it.

“Zoie...” my wolf whispered within my head.
