Chapter 1: The Invitation
Arriana always liked attending balls, and ceremonies, especially if they involved her getting a new dress. There was one catch though, she never liked attending werewolf events. They always seemed to be barbaric and uncivilized. At least that is what she told herself.
In werewolf society she was looked down upon for not being a pure blood werewolf, even though she was higher in rank than most werewolves. She was an alpha’s daughter after all. In witch society, they did not care as long as you were a descendent of a strong bloodline, which she was. She was bread to be strong. Her father was one of the most powerful alphas in the country and her mother was of the most power bloodlines to ever been seen.
She had always preferred her magic abilities over her beastly ones. She planned to leave the pack after she was mated, and join her mates coven. That’s why she always dreaded the annual alpha’s ball. It was a ball for all unmated wolves under the age of 20. Only children of alpha’s and beta’s received invitations. Arriana Hayes the thought of a wolf as a mate. She would never be able to escape pack life or join a proper coven. Her pack was the only pack in the last millennium to merge with a coven. No other packs would be all that excepting of a half breed.
Arriana’s day started out like every other since graduating high school. She woke up at 6am and headed down to pack breakfast and quickly ate before her training began. Her father and her twin brother, Kai, normally trainee all morning, all the way up to lunch, but today was different. Her father had called a pack meeting but only for alpha and betas. Arriana already knew what this was about. The invitations for this years alpha’s ball had arrived.
As soon as everyone had arrived to the meeting hall that is exactly what her father announced. Her father’s beta’s twin daughters were invited for the first time as they had turned 18, the age at which most wolves found their mates. As had Arriana and Kai. They were also twins which is a common trait amoung their pack. Their mother and the beta’s mate were also twins. Their father and his beta were only brother’s though.
Arriana put up her usual protests which was backed by her favorite of the beta twins, Amalee. The other twin, Emalee, was quite content on going. So was Kai, he was very quick to follow wolf tradition. He was the complete opposite of Ari. He did not want to have anything to do with his witch side. He believed that he was meant to be a wolf and nothing more. Never the less, he was forced to practice magic just as Ari was forced to train her wolf.
Because of their strong tie to both magic and nature each of their abilities were strengthened. Their wolf was enhanced through their magic, and their magic was enhanced through their animalistic connection to nature. They kept how powerful they really were a secret. If anyone knew, they might mean them harm.
After Arriana had complained all she could she was taken for a dress fitting. She was happy about this. She enjoyed this kind of thing but the idea that a wolf could claim her as his at this event absolutely repulsed her. She had to figure out a way to make sure this didn’t happen.
After her fitting she went to consult her two best friends and cousins, Emalee and Amalee.
“I need a plan to ensure that if I do have a wolf mate, and he is at this ball, he will not find me. Any idea?”
“A charm, perhaps?” Amalee asked.
“No that would be easily broken by the mate bond. I need something tangible.”
“An amulet then.” Amalee tried again.
“That may work.”
They gathered the materials they needed. Some wolvesbane, silver, and a little bit of sage. They coats a silver chain with the lilac, then began to forge a pendant, a cressant moon. They infused the pendant with wolves bane, then they began their incantation.
After the amulet was done Arianna fastened it around her neck and thanked her cousins for their help. She just hoped it would work, and it would go undetected.
Arriana made her last preparations for the next day and dreamed of the fun she could now have at the ball without the worry of being mated.
