The days that made us change.
It was senior year in high school. Leaves started to change color. The wind rustled through the trees. The birds chirped. Singing along to the sound of the bustling city around them. Nothing could compare to how beautiful the day was. That is until Emily sprinting through the halls of her new school,bumped into him. Jace. The cool,hot,smart,stuck up jock of the school. He was as arrogant as he was spoild. And because of this he was considered someone not to mess with or get on his bad side.
"Hey watch it" Jace said in harsh loud voice. Not even caring to ask if Emily was okay.
"Im sorry. I..i didn't mean to...i..i didn't see you." She said in hushed,quite voice. Almost to scared to make eye contact. Jace shruged and walked away. But from that day on he always made fun of her. Getting people to take her stuff. Pushing her around. Calling her names. Starting rumers. But she didnt let this stuff bother her. She always held her head high. And always turned the other way which made Jace furious. One Friday afternoon,Jace was walking around the almost empty halls when he heard the most beautiful thing ever.A girl singing in the small,dark, music room. She sat at the old grand piano. Lightly typing the keys. Moving her hands from one side to the other. Lost in her music she didnt realize Jace standing behind her in the door way. He stood their in awe. His heart started to pound when he started to listion to the words she was singing.

She played with passion and sang with emotion. She played in hope to make herself feel better. It was her way to escape reality. She played and sang the rest of her song. When she finnished she let the echoing of the keys die. She let a single tear fall and drop down. He stood there and watched as she sat silently. She moved her hair behind her face allowing Jace to see who it was. And when he realized who it was he stepped back. He was confused. He jad always thougjt Enily was I talented,clumbsy. Un able to feel pain. He pushed his head back not relizing the sound it would make from the lockers. Emilt stood up and steped forward. He peaked in the room. He quickly hid behind the wall when Emily saw him. With out thinking he ran. Afraid of what she woukd say if she saw him standing out side the door. He ran past everybody and out the doors. Stoping at the top of the steps to catch his breath. He didnt know if the song was true. He didn't know if it was what she was holding in. He droped his bag and sat down. Laying his head in his hands. He lost himself in thought.
"Is it true? What she was singing? Is it a song I haven't heard of ? Her playing was soft and sweet? She doesn't look like she can afford lessons. I mean look at her clothing." He sat there asking himself. He didn't notice Emily standing behind him watching him. She studied him for a moment before walking towards him and taping him on his shoulder. He jumped to his feet and quickly turned around. Thrown off guard of the action. When he saw Emily's big blue eyes looking and studying him he felt unconftorble. He didnt know why sje was looking at him. But with out worning she asked.
"Are you okay Jace " smiling to show she only means well.
"Yes I'm fine" Jace said in a sensier but sturn voice. Not allowing to show his confusion.
"Ok,if you say so. I just wantrd to ask. Ive never seen you run so fast before". He smiled. "I'm sorry if my singign was bad. I wont sing anymore."her words sliped out like she dose it a lot. He looked at her in confusion. He enjoyed her singing. The mere thought of that turned his stomach. He never liked anything she did. She hated the way she was nice to everyone. Even people who were mean to her. He hated her inocent look and how smart she was.
"I enjoyed your singing." He said almost embarrassed to admit it.
"You did?" She studied his dark features. Her blue eyes wide open by his statment.
"Dont read into it to much. I still dont like you." Right when his true colors were comming out he put up his act. He pushed past her and went to his car. Wjen he turend around he saw Emily walking down the side walk. He watched as she started down the empty street. He oulled out and followed her.
"Why am I following her. Its not like I care about her. But then agian she goes down this empty street to get home. This is the most dangerous street in the city too." He kept talking to himself. He stoped when a middle age man came out of know where and grabed the girl. He started yelling about a dedts that needed to be paied off. She struggled with him before realizing he was to strong. He could hear there conversation from where he was parked.
"Please I dont have the money to pay it off right now. Juat give me more time and I'll get the money."
"Its to late for that,you and your father are out of time."
" there must be another way to pay off his dete. I'll do anything. But just dont kick us out. Im begging you."she clung to her bag. You could see the fear of being homless in her eyes. The fear in her voice carried as well. She begged and begged. Jace sat in his car and watched them. Then a sharp cackling laugh broke out. A drunken man came out and grabed Emily and pulled her towards him.
"Anything you say"the man held on tight to her. He had a crazed smile on his face. It looked as if he had been drinking. "Why dont you take her over there and have some fun with her. You know...to pay off what we owe you." Both men laughed and she struggled to free herself. Jace sat in fear of what they had just said. The man in the stained tank top draged her into an alley way. She screamed and know one came to help. He sat there jn fear. He quickly out his car in reverse and drove off. Hes breathing heaveyed. Mean while the man held Emily down. Ahe struggled to free herself. He forced himself on top of her. The more she screamed the harder he went. Ir was like a sick game to him. Her father walked away. She could do nothing she gave up fighting. When he finnished he left her there on the ground. Her cloths torn and covered in dirt. She layed there. She curled into a ball and cried. She cried and thats the onlything she could do. That day Jace had seen something unimaginable. That day they meet and talked for the first time. That day he left and ran away from monsters. After that he ignored her, and completely left the room when she would walk in. It broke him to see her smile like nothing happen. He hated what he had done. He hated himself for being tje person he was to her and then leaving like it was the only choice. The worst part was he never admitted to her about being there. About leaving. He couldnt do it.
