The Start of the End
Iris
“Why won’t you believe me?” She said with all the strength left in her body as her blood was slowly draining out of her system.
“Enough! How low can you get? The evidence proved everything that you tried to frame Mia, blaming her for the death of your parents when you just want to gain sympathy! How ruthless of you! I wished I’ve never been with you. You’re disgusting!”
The man that was supposed to cherish her, to protect her, to believe her unconditionally; was nonexistent as the man in front of her not only condemned her for something she did not do but also side with the woman who is the root of it all---of the death of her parents who did nothing but to love that woman as if she was also their daughter, of her older brother who supported her every pursuit as long as she is happy, of her dreams that may seem unconventional but was very much fulfilling.
She blamed herself. If only she did not meet that woman she called her best friend; this wouldn’t happen. If only she did not meet her, she would still hear the laughter at her home and watch the occasional dances of her parents. She wished she did not know her, then she wouldn’t be stained with the blood of her loved ones, then she wouldn’t be wishing she also hadn’t met that man.
But it’s too late. Still, she hoped, in the next life, if ever she was given a second chance; she wouldn’t love those two people like she did. She wouldn’t even think of revenge, she just wants her family back.
“I really… didn’t. Why… wouldn’t you… believe… me?”
“Let her bleed to death then burn her body and scatter it in the forest. She doesn’t deserve to rest in peace.” Leo said again as he walked away without even taking another glance at her as she fought for the tears to back down because she doesn’t want to appear any more weaker than she did.
“I regretted… it.” Leo stopped as she uttered these words. She looked at his back with blurry eyes. “I regretted… loving you… and trusting… her.” She said with all the strength left in her. “I swear… in the… next life, I wouldn’t… love… you… anymore. It’s the… biggest… mistake… I ever… did.” She finished as the last breath left her body.
She swore she did everything to prove her innocence. She really did. But no one, not even he, believed her.
“You think you’re better than me? You’re just a naïve little girl who thought the world was all rainbows and butterflies and shitting unicorns. You can’t even compare to me. Now, your money, your friends, and the love of your life are all mine. Haha, it’s really worth it to pretend to be your friend all these years!”
She was tired of it all. Finally, she prayed in her heart, asking for forgiveness to her parents and older brother.
I’m sorry. I’m not strong enough to protect you when all you did was protect me. I’m sorry it’s all my fault. I swear, ma, pa, Vin, I swear, I will protect you if given the chance that you’ll be my family again in the next life. I’ll listen to you, okay? Please don’t hate me. Please don’t. Please.
And then there was darkness.
