Chapter 1
Feeling of warmth spreads throughout her body as she slowly stretches with the promise of a new day starting. A yawn spreads on her face while she rubs her sleepy eyes, debating on if she's ready to open them yet. Deciding that the new day isn't technically a new day until she fully wakes up, she slowly opens her emerald eyes and sits up in bed.
Her eyes land on the site in front of her, a beautiful forest that leads to her favorite pond. She smiles before standing up to prepare herself for the day. The trek to her closet is quick, as she quickly pulls out a random outfit in the front and steps into the bathroom to take a shower.
She patiently waits for the water to warm up before stripping her clothes off. While waiting she glances at her reflection in the mirror. Her emerald eyes and thick lashes look back at her, but with small dark circles under them from all the tireless nights she has had recently. Her eyes glance at the tangled mess of her ebony hair and she sighs as she brushes it out. Its length grows at least six inches every year leaving her with hair down to her hips.
Seeing the steam start to fog up on the mirror she silently puts her brush down and strips off her clothes before climbing into the shower. The warmth spreads even quicker than the waking sun this morning, and a sigh of relief flies from her mouth.
"Katherine!" She nearly slips with fright at the sound of her name being called.
"Katherine! Hurry up! You still have to pack, we're leaving today!" She hears her mother call to her through the bathroom door while hitting it with a loud bang. She had almost forgotten that today was moving day.
"Coming mother!" Her soft voice calls out to her, so she doesn't have to hear her mother get angry.
Katherine quickly washes her hair and body, moving as quickly as possible. She didn't want to anger her parents, and she definitely didn't want to be late to Aunt Carols. She rolls her eyes silently as she thinks of the wicked witch of the west and her four children. It's crazy to think that her mother is related to her, but understandable since they look identical.
Shutting the water off and grabbing the towel that's hanging up nearby, she dries off and climbs out. Deciding she's probably wasted too much time in the shower already, she pulls her hair into a bun without drying it. Knowing she will regret the decision later which will reward her with a splitting migraine to the back of the head, but messing with her hair will take too much time.
She pulls on the undergarments she chose along with the jeans and t-shirt, and glances at her reflection. She nods her head and quickly packs away all her bathroom items into the readily available bag she laid out last night. As she pulls her toothbrush out she quickly brushes her teeth before placing it into the bag as well.
After double checking that everything she needed was packed away, she grabs her bag and opens the door to her room. She places it on the bed, grabs the much larger suitcase for her clothes, and quickly hauls it into the closet. She chooses her best clothes, the comfiest clothes, and clothes that could be worn on a relaxing day but still be appropriate to wear out in public.
Once she's done with her clothes she grabs all the essential shoes, including her loved boots that she nearly wears everyday. She leaves the boots out so she can wear them today.
"Katherine, are you almost done?" Her mother barges into her room without knocking. She glances up at her as she storms into the closet. Noticing how stressed her mother is, she tries to stay as calm as possible.
"Yes, nearly done mother." She notices her beautiful mother's face scrunch with anxiety before she shakes her head. Although many people say how they look like sisters, Katherine doesn't see the resemblance between her mother and her. They are complete opposite, with Katherine having ebony hair while her mother has natural platinum blonde hair. Her eyes are emerald, while her mother has baby blue eyes. Her skin is even naturally more tan and toned than her mothers.
"Perfect, now we just have to get your dad off his lazy ass and get a move on." It doesn't surprise her that he's relaxing before the big move, he didn't have a choice in the matter and neither did she. Mother dictated that it was happening, so that's what's happening.
Mother storms out of the room once again as Katherine starts hauling her now fully packed suitcase into the room. No, they aren't selling the house but they are moving into Aunt Carol's house since her husband is sick. Sadly, this move is across the United States, and nowhere near their house.
Officially being an adult did nothing to try to persuade her mother to let her stay here, in the house she grew up in, and loves. Her mother's exact words were, 'she may be an adult, but she doesn't know how to live like one yet'. Although she didn't have several friends, the one's she did have were devastated she was moving away for a bit. They even tried convincing her mother to let her stay, but she didn't put up with any of it.
She glances out the window in a daze, realizing she won't be able to stick her feet once more into the pond she loves so dearly. Hopefully Aunt Carol will have a pond or lake where she lives. Mother said that we once lived in the area, but seeing Katherine was just a baby that she wouldn't remember it.
Grabbing the backpack on the desk, Katherine packs up her phone charger, computer, and other essential items she will need for the move. She doesn't forget to grab her stuffed bear, the one that she's had since she was born. She stuffs him into her backpack knowing she would have been devastated if she had forgotten to pack him. She grabs a couple of her favorite book series as well, knowing it will be a long drive.
Looking around the room one last time, she sighs as she slings her bag over her shoulder, grabs her suitcases, and strides out of her bedroom door.
