the footage

Everybody is a suspect till the criminal is behind bars & the case is closed, essentially in that order. Sometimes you need to close the case first.

“Sir, we see two persons in the CCTV footage, but the video itself is of no help. The fog makes it difficult for discerning their faces; moreover they covered their faces in towels, so chances of identification are negligible Sir.”

“Any vehicle?”

“No Sir, they seemed to appear on foot…I mean they just appeared out of nowhere in front of the camera view.”

“Any weapons in their hand?”

“The footage doesn’t give any clue of that; their hands were draped with shawl kind of cloth.”

“We have to revisit the bungalow, follow-up with forensics and tap the phone records. I don’t want CBI hurtling towards us. How soon can Ishita talk?”

“She is still in ICU, fighting the injuries. Doctor says 50-50.”

“And do we have a valuation of stolen items…what’s his brother’s name...any statement from him?”

“Aniket…no Sir, we took him for a round inside the bungalow, but he wasn’t sure how much cash or jewelry could have been in their possession, however he knew his brother kept good amount of cash at all times. We will also speak to his parents as well, although I doubt, whether they had any clue of cash or jewelry.”

“Vivek’s father’s statement will be crucial in this case…I want to talk to him tomorrow, first thing. Meanwhile let us go through the security guard’s statement once again.”

This conversation was taking place between Police Chief Verma and his Superintendent Gautam. Last night two men had attacked a couple living in Sangeeta Colony, in Eastern part of Delhi, and the husband Vivek was fatally wounded, succumbing to intestinal injuries in the hospital. His wife Ishita, is struggling for her life in ICU. None of the family members have any clue, who or why were they attacked in this gruesome manner. Prima facie it appears that the assailants had observed the duty pattern of the security guard and allowed them enough time to sneak their way inside, probably when he would have been taking a stroll to check the perimeters. They might not have known the presence of CCTV cameras, but it was around 2:30 midnight and the fog had worked in their favor.

“It’s quite foggy this year, don’t you think? It was damn difficult driving yesterday night, even around 10:30.”

“I don’t see any difference. But this time this fog is going to give our Sahib a tough time.”

“What do you mean?”

“SP sahib had retrieved CCTV footage, of the jewelry shop, adjacent to the car showroom which deceased Vivek owned, but they couldn’t make out the faces.”

“Hey get on, SP Sahib is coming…”

SP Gautam, along with his assistant Suraj, headed for the autopsy room. It was a fine morning and the sun was shining bright on the earth. It prompted Suraj to wear his goggles.

“Suraj, do a thorough background check of this couple…how long they have been residing here, Vivek’s business record, any troublesome past, check with the bank”

“Sir, seems like business rivalry, I will check for partnerships or sour deals…”

“Also interrogate the neighbors and send them off in a false cue, saying you have heard rumors about Vivek’s business ethics…you know what I mean…it might open few canned up stories…”

“Right. Any progress with the graphic team?”

“They might sharpen the fog up a bit, that’s all…”
