Chapter 1- Preparations
I can feel it. The urge to hunt, to mate. The air smells faintly of spring flowers, and I breathe it in while I still can- before long all I will be able to smell will be the scents of females in range.
The Hunt happens every year. Males and females alike get so volatile and aggressive with lust and rage that if they don’t find a partner...towns start to bathe with blood. In short, they must fuck each other for a month straight, or people die.
I’d lived through many seasons, lost count actually. But I do remember that each Hunt is more bloody than the last. I only have one objective every season- to protect my sister. She didn’t have primal urges...yet. And I needed to protect her from lustful males on the prowl. I shudder, remembering last year. I had to kill three males then, or they would’ve bred with Valorie until she spilt in two. She would have her first Hunt next season, and I vow to myself to be there for her every step of the way. I remember my first hunt, and I’d been alone. Kole didn’t care about me. He never had and he never would. My father was a fully grown alpha male, and a part of the council, and somehow he could care less about his non fuck-up son. I would never be good enough for Kole Rose. I remembered every second of it, the excruciating pain that came when my fangs slid through my soft gum tissue, the scent of nearby females, and, above all, the overwhelming desire to rip someone’s throat out with my newly found strength. And I had. I’d killed over 200 innocent victims that year, and the guilt that came later was nearly intolerable. I didn’t feel anything when I killed the people, and my refusal to hunt down a female is why the urge didn’t subside. I couldn’t let that happen to Valorie. I couldn’t. I wouldn’t.
