May's pov
She was beautiful dancing across the stage. She seemed weightless, fragile, yet full of confidence in her abilities, strong. She was breathtaking. I had to know her.
Soon, the end of her performance came. She took a bow and left the stage carefully. I put my phone in my pocket and chased after her. She completely stole my heart with a single performance.
I soon found the woman drinking water from her pink plastic bottle. She hastily gulped the clear liquid down as though her life depended on it. I smiled and outstretched my hand. She looked up at my hand from the ground.
"Hello, I'm—"
"You're not supposed to be back here! What are you doing?" She asked, effectively cutting off my words. I pouted and started again. My eyes widened as I realized what she had said.
"Hello, I'm May, and I'm a writer. I came here looking for inspiration, but may have found my muse." I flirted. I received a melodious laugh from the dancer. Her eyes also widened as she looked at her wrist. My first sentence was on her skin, as was hers on my wrist.
"We're soulmates?" I asked quickly. She nodded her head and brushed it off.
"I like your style, May. You're sharp and to the point. I'm Kaitlyn, and I'm a dancer as you just saw. What do you want from me?" Kaitlyn asked. She placed her water bottle onto the floor beside her. I smiled widely and reached my hand down to help her up.
"You enticed me with your performance skills. You looked breathtaking out there, Kaitlyn. Someone had to tell you. And now we both know we're soulmates..." I lowered my head and turned on my white velvet heeled shoe. She grabbed my wrist and turned me back to face her again.
"No one has ever said something like that to me; thank you!" She smiled. I felt my heart race in my chest. Her smile was sweet, small dimples formed around her mouth. Her eyes crinkled slightly from her round cheeks pressing up on her face.
"How come? You're an amazing performer, Kaitlyn. I'd have expected many people to have complimented you on your work." I spoke confused. She smiled and ruffled my short bubblegum pink hair. I smiled and swooped my bangs away from my eyes.
"Not many people come up to me, they all say I'm intimidating. Am I intimidating, May?" Kaitlyn sighed and raked her right hand through her shoulder length blue hair. I felt myself yearn to touch her hair. She noticed and smiled. An unknown man came into the room.
"Kaitlyn, you're on again in five!" He claimed and left the dressing room. She gave me an apologetic look and handed me her unlocked phone. I took the memo and did the same.
"I'm really sorry Kaitlyn, but I have to get back to my job at Star Cafe. I really wish I could stay longer." I whined and took back my phone. I slid it into my back pocket.
"Thank you for coming!" Kaitlyn exclaimed as I left to work.
"May, you're late! What held you up?" My boss Brian asked. He was the manager at Star Cafe, and one of my closest friends.
"I think I found my muse, Bribri. She's my soulmate." I smirked as I tied on the cute pink apron. I stood behind the register, ready to accept orders.
An hour into my shift, I received a text from Kaitlyn.
Kaitlyn
My set is over, do you wanna meet up
after your shift is over?
I smiled to myself happily. I must have left quite an imprint on her if she wanted to meet up so soon!
Me
I get off in ten minutes
Where do you want to meet?
Kaitlyn
How about at Star Cafe? I can
pick you up and take you wherever
you wanna go?
Me
Sounds good! Is something the matter
though? Why do you want to meet up
so soon?
Kaitlyn
I just want to know more about you.
Maybe you can get to know who I am?
Me
That's so sweet! I want to know
a lot about you! Maybe we could
be friends?
Kaitlyn
Absolutely! I'm on my way
right now May.
Me
Okay! See you soon!
I smiled happily as I re-read our conversation. I stood frozen for a second.
"Brian! I'm going on a date in a few, I'm sorry I can't work overtime like usually!" I exclaimed and untied my apron. I walked into the employees room and changed back into my normal clothes- a baby pink knee length dress. I kept on the white velvet high heeled boots.
"What? You're actually going on a date? Nice job, May!" Brian high fived me. I smiled and hugged him tightly.
"This girl might just be exactly what you needed, May. I've noticed you were feeling down recently. Maybe she will make you happier?" Brian thought aloud. I gave him a gentle shove as I noticed Kaitlyn enter the store.
"Kaitlyn!" I waved and hopped over the counter. I walked towards her and wrapped her in a hug.
"Well someone missed me!" Kaitlyn cooed and hugged me back. I nodded my head shyly.
"That's cute." She mumbled and ran her hand through my hair. I smiled happily.
"Well, where do you want to go, soulmate?" She asked teasingly. I shrugged my shoulders and let her decide.
"Well you're a writer needing inspiration; how about we hit a book store then go out to eat? I'll pay!" Kaitlyn claimed. I smiled excitedly and nodded my head.
"May, you're taking tomorrow off! Don't worry about your pay; just spend time with your girl!" Brian yelled from the counter. I smiled thankfully at the older male.
"I will! Thank your Brian!" I exclaimed back. Kaitlyn gently took my right hand in her left and leads me towards the closest book store. I felt my heart race at her contact.
"So what kind of books do you write May?" Kaitlyn asked. I smiled happily that she would want to know more about what I do.
"I have two fictional books about soulmates, a Zombie apocalypse book, a flower book, and a few more! I tend to write what I feel mostly." I spoke softly. I realized how sad most of my books were and gave her a sheepish smile.
"Is that one of your books I see?" Kaitlyn asks and runs towards my stand. She picks up a book.
"Crossed? What's this one about?" She asked. I smiled remembering how much fun I had writing my second book.
"Instead of the first sentence on your wrist, it's a name. The name of your soulmate is on your wrist, and in the book, only straight pairings cake normally. However, the main characters are both males and are soulmates." I summed the story up shortly. Kaitlyn nodded her head and sat the boom in her basket.
"Seeing Red?"
"My very first book I wrote. Soulmates can't see in color until they meet each other. The mains are the first same sex pairing of soulmates in the story." I smiled as she placed the book in her basket with Crossed.
"You know you can just read the back of the book right?" I laughed. Kaitlyn smiled sweetly, her dimples showed themselves.
"I know, I just like hearing your voice tell me what they're about. What about Deal With The Devil?" She asked.
"A human calls for the devil and falls in love with him." I smiled. She stood shocked, rigid, for a moment then placed the book in her basket.
"How do you come up with all of these stories? It's amazing..." Kaitlyn trailed off. I waved her amazement off.
"It's my passion, Kaitlyn. I absolutely love what I do, so I do it frequently. But, recently I've been in a foul mood mentally, and it's affecting how often I write. I haven't written a chapter, a sentence, anything in two weeks, and it's really getting to me." I confided. I didn't quite know why I was so comfortable with Kaitlyn so soon, maybe it was the soulmate bond? I didn't really know or care.
"Dancing is my passion. I love how graceful I look, and the smiling faces that greet me from the audience. It's stunning." Kaitlyn looked lost in thought as she talked. I smiled softly at her lost eyes.
"Do you know what else is stunning?" I asked. She looked at me pointedly.
"If you say—"
"You!" I smiled widely, a small laugh flowing from my mouth. She sighed happily and ruffled my hair. I whined and tried to fix the mess she made of my pink hair.
"Kaitlyn!" I exclaimed and frantically tried to fix my hair back to how I had it.
She soon had every one of my books in her basket. I carried the basket for her.
"It's heavy, I'll carry it!" I exclaimed and took her basket gently from her hands. She smiled thankfully at me.
"How about we go for pizza now?" Kaitlyn asked. I nodded my head excitedly. I love pizza.
"How did you know I like pizza?" I asked. Kaitlyn scoffed.
"Who doesn't?" She exclaimed and took my hand. She payed for her books and mine. She led me away from the book store and towards a pizza place.
We both slid into the booth. Kaitlyn sighed heavily as we waited for our pizza to come.
"What's wrong?" I asked as I chomped down on a slice once it came. She smiled at me and shrugged.
"What do you do when you have to tell someone close to you a big secret, but are scared it could ruin everything?" Kaitlyn asked. I smiled sadly at her.
"Sometimes you have to take that chance, Kaitlyn. If you have to tell them, don't beat around the bush. Just tell them outright, it'll hurt less if it's painful." I said after a short while of thinking.
"Okay, then I'll be outright with it. May, I'm not human." Kaitlyn said too quickly for me to understand.
"Come again?" I asked. She took a calming deep breath.
"I'm a demon." She claimed as her eyes shone completely black instead of their green color.
