The Carnival
There was a blood curdling scream in my ear my stomach was doing flips, and I felt like I was going to throw up. Then everything stopped. The boy opened the door and said, “Okay no more you two this is like the 100th time you rode it, take a break.”
“Oh come on man don’t be such a party popper,” Azpen said moving her dirty blonde hair out of her eyes. She tried to give him a cute smirk but it was an all out grin. She knew he didn’t want to hear her screams anymore.
“Well Kate doesn’t look too good.” He looked at me with his gray eyes. His curly black locks drifted in the air.
“I’m fine Lucas,” I replied and gave him a peck on the cheek as we reluctantly got out of the ride. Azpen looked back at me and fake puked. “Oh shush Azpen your just jealous.”
“Me jealous, never.”
“That sarcasm of yours is going to kill you ya know.”
“Well, now your jealous.”
“Enough girls we get it already,” said Lucas, he turned to me and said “I will meet you at the hideout tonight when I get off shift... ”
“Come on Lucas no one rides the Zipper! Just come right now!” I argued.
“Hey I’m working at the carnival right not volunteering, do you want me to get fired!?”
“No,” I mumbled.
“Okay then bye, and I love you,” He said.
“I love you too... I guess,” I sighed, behind me Azpen was laughing so hard she was crying , then she snorted and me and Lucas broke character. Azpen grabbed my hand and took me away from Lucas.
“You look fine I don’t know what he was talking about,” She touched my nose, “boop, now let’s go find your brother because he doesn’t have work.”
“Hey! That’s my brother your talking about!” I yelled.
But Azpen just smiled “Oh come on Kate,” she moved my wavy blonde hair and continued, “I’m just joking and you need to put your hair in a ponytail more often so people can see your beautiful amber eyes. You know only about 5% of the world’s population...”
“...Has amber eyes,” I finished she always told me that but her hazel eyes are just as rare.
We finally found Jake at the fish bowl toss. He was so engrossed in the game he didn’t hear us come up behind him. After he finished his last ball he said, “One more round please.” I saw Azpen sneaking up behind him.
“No!!” I whispered but it was too late. Azpen has already messed his hair up. There was another girl-like blood curdling scream in my ear, but this time it wasn’t Azpen it was my twin brother.
He whipped around to face Azpen his curly blonde hair messed up now, and his face bright red not tan like me. “You Azpen Lopez, are so dead!!” But she was just laughing, now her mascara dripping down her tan face.
She is about 2 to 3 inches taller than me and but I’m curvier. I have a dog she has a snake. My parents are together her’s are divorced. I have a twin she doesn’t have any siblings. I play volleyball and softball she just does art club. I get A’s and B’s she gets all A’s. I have a boyfriend she doesn’t date. We may sound like polar opposites but we’ve been best friends since the beginning. But it’s totally different for my brother and boyfriend. They both have curly hair, but my brother has blonde and Lucas has black. Lucas has five dogs we only have one. They’re both lean, tan, and muscular, play football and baseball, and get A’s and B’s. We call ourselves the tan-tastic four.
“Come on loser we have a tan-tastic three meeting,” Azpen grumbled.
“You mean tan-tastic four,” Jake argued.
“I know what I said Lucas is at work and you don’t so we are going to bother you because Lucas kicked us off the Zipper.” She gave him the look. Try to imagine someone giving a sassy look and make it the most terrifying thing because she does it good.
“Fine but can you let me finish this round I’m one ball away from getting the hermit crab.”
“Fine I give you mercy.”
“Thank you Azpen,” he said pretending to bow down at her feet.
“I should do this more often,” she laughed
“No you shouldn’t what you need to do is clean your face,” he laughed back. I just sighed and walked away Azpen, and soon Jake with a hermit crab in hand, tagged along too.
After Lucas's shift was over he met us at the house, and we all piled into the Mustang. Last summer we all put our money together to buy an old Mustang from the old guy down the street. But he ended up giving it to us for free and said get it tuned up and painted. So we got it fixed and used the rest of the money to get a sweet paint job. It’s matte black with turquoise flames. We drove to the woods about two miles away from my house.
