A road to nowhere

Some people I know have said that I have a problem family and now I’m considering that they’re right. When I was younger, I always thought that I could run away from my problems but now that I’ve grown up I noticed that things don’t always stay the same whether you like it or not. I’m flexible with change mum says as she closes her case shut. I nod stupidly because I don’t really know what to say. I may act like I’m fine with what’s going on but inside I’m lost and stuck. At that moment, Dixie came rushing in with her my little pony suitcase that crashed open so that clothes scattered everywhere on the floor.

“Oh Dixie” mum sighed as she bent down to pick up the clothes. I noticed that she looked more pale and stressed than usual and I felt sorry for her. Most of the time, she’s there to comfort us but now she needs some. Of course my little sister wouldn’t understand so I decided to be there for her.

I gently took the clothes from my mum and put my arm around her as I slouched down beside her against the bed. She blinked at me but then started sobbing onto my shoulder. Suddenly, she looked like a lost small girl but then blinked back into reality.

“Shhh..it’s ok” I whispered as I stroked her hair like she used to do me when I cried.

“Oh Oaklyn” she wept. “Everything is just going wrong!”

“Don’t worry mum, you always think of a solution”

“Well I’m tired of being the genius and Sherlock for us all the time” “when do I get a break eh?”

Her words stung but I brushed that aside pretending as if it hadn’t.

“Me want huggy too!” Wailed Dixie wobbling over to us.

“Alright alright” mum sniffed straightening up and wiping her face. “Oh heavens, I probably look a state!”

“I think you look nice as you are mum” I said hoping that this compliment would make her feel better.

“Well doesn’t everyone” she said sarcastically cradling a hyper Dixie

Tears suddenly pricked my eyes
