Wonderful
"I was once told to treat the sea as a good woman. Never abuse her for she will turn wild and make you suffer. I can smell the sea, feel the salty wind, the seaweed covered shore. hear the gulls screech in your story. I've nothing further to add as I enjoyed reading and loved the ending."
A Beautiful Return to the Sea
"As someone who feels a connection to water and oceans, maybe I related with this a little too much, but I simply thought it was beautiful. In a lot of ways I want to end the review right there because I'm having trouble finding words... this short piece just grabbed me, and the writing was emotional and expressive and there was something real and tangible about it. I wasn't completely sure what was going on or how it would end, but I had suspicions it would be something along the lines of what ended up happening, yet I still felt surprised and intensely interested to see it play out. I really enjoyed this entire thing and would gladly read more from this writer; I honestly can't even find anything to critique! They just have a wonderful style. Great job and I can't wait to read more!"
The Psychology of Folklore
"To echo the previous reviews, this is a spellbinding little gem, more a prose poem or a piece or re-imagined folklore than a simple short story. It's very tricky to pull of a story in this day and age without any dialogue at all, but the narrative voice is so compelling and descriptive that you hardly notice. Actually, the entire piece is like a monologue, as the narrator broods over the lure of the sea and takes her first steps towards its icy embrace. What a find most interesting about this piece is how it translates a fairy tale motif into a psychological narrative: if we could see inside the minds of the stock characters of folklore this is what it would look like, and the seemingly artless stories would acquire much greater depth and drama. It's almost unfortunate that it breaks off with only this much--I could imagine this as the Prelude to a longer work, especially since the author has invested so much skill in creating the narrator's inner world. Beautiful writing throughout and a piece that seems alive in every sense of the word. Thoroughly enjoyed it!"
Beautiful
"Beautiful imagery. The words break like surf in the reader’s mind.I love the ending, and did not expect it. “Other girls… with other boys…” She’s watching the other girls or maybe she isn’t a girl in the same sense they are. Why are the boys described as other? I would not describe the boys as other. “Then they would laugh and wink…” very good use of detail in this paragraph. “I heaved myself to my feet ignoring the grands of sand.” you mean “grains” not grands. Find a contest or someplace to submit this."
Review
"So...you presented a short story and I read it. To be honest...this story is very smooth. I think it differs from what you usually write...what I know of you. This story is pure. And that's a rare quality that I see. It's not the type to be used in novel writing of course. I enjoyed it and appreciated it. I don't see any mistakes of any sort. Selkie...I had to search up what it is. So perhaps you should keep that point in your head. What you should greatly work on is your summary which I think could be drastically improve, right? Because if someone looks at this....they would read the summary before determining whether they want to read it or not right? So that's just a minor issue that I came across. The title is very interesting and has meaning. I don't have a lot to say about this short story. But my main point is that it's a good story that everyone should read once in a while. It's pure. Period."
