Chapter 1
"Oh crap!” Kira looked at her alarm clock as soon as she woke up. “I'm gonna be late!"
She jumped out of bed and ran into her bathroom to shower and brush her teeth. After getting dressed in her casual t-shirt and sweatpants, she hurried down into the kitchen where her mother and her older brother were eating breakfast on the kitchen island.
"Jonathan, can you give me to school?" she begged her brother.
"Sorry kid,” Jonathan got out of his chair while grabbing his car keys off the island counter. “I gotta get to work.” He planted a light kiss on his mother’s forehead and patted Kira’s shoulder before walking out the kitchen.
Kira looked at her mother in desperation but she just ignored her and continued to eat her breakfast. She sighed loudly and grabbed a stale muffin from the plate on the island counter. The only way she was going to get to school on time was if she had a ride but there was not a single person she could depend on.
Stepping outside of the house, she carried her skateboard in her hand which was going to be her method of transportation. Thankfully she knew a few shortcuts to get to school but it would still take her about thirty minutes. She would call her best friend, Winston, to give her a ride but she figured that he was already in class.
After almost getting into about three accidents, she made it to school faster than she thought. There were still students wandering around which meant that she wasn’t too late. Instead of getting off her skateboard, she rode it inside and straight to her locker. A few people in the hallways were forced to jump out of my way.
"Out of the way losers! You know the drill!" Kira yelled skating past people.
She rounded a corner and jumped the skateboard. In the failed attempt to land on her feet, she slipped and landed on her butt. The skateboard went flying down to the end of the hall.
"Crap,” she hissed in pain as she stood up and rubbed her behind. “I'll just get it when I'm done."
Kira quickly opened her locker to get her supplies but it was slammed back closed. She didn’t flinch at the sudden action though. The hand in front of her was all too familiar and the scene happened to her at least twice a day.
"Looks like you're late again,” a low voice spoke from behind her.
Why does this guy always have to bother me? she wondered.
She ignored him and tried to open her locker again but he wouldn’t move his hand. Annoyed, she turned around and craned her neck up to look at him. With her body trapped between his and her locker, she had no choice but to confront him. Instead of actually looking in his eyes, she looked at his lips.
"You know I don't like being ignored, right Kiki?” she cringed at the nickname he came up with for her.
"Tristian, do you mind? I have a class to get to and your face isn't really pleasant to me right now," she said still avoiding eye contact. With Tristian, once you look into his eyes, there was no turning back.
"Come on, babe,” he smirked and started to lean closer to her. “Don't be that way. We're going to the same class anyway."
"Unless you want your quote-unquote perfect nose to get smashed in I suggest that you move. Now." she threatened him.
"That's hurtful,” he said but he still didn't move.
"And it will be painful," she growled. "Now move before you make both of us even later."
Tristian chuckled and looked down the hall at the skateboard. He hesitated for a moment but then moved his body away from Kira’s. She watched him as he walked to the end of the hall and picked up her skateboard. When he walked back over, he handed it to her.
"You know for such a good girl you sure like to break the rules,” he commented as she glared up at him and snatched her skateboard from his hands to put it in her locker.
"Whoever said I was a good girl?" I said and slammed the locker door.
Kira quickly shuffled down the hallway to her class with Tristian trailing behind her. She stopped for a moment stopped and turned to face him. He stood casually with his hands in his pockets, smirking.
"Can you not walk into class at the same time as me? I would not like to be mentally choked by the girls again," she said looking at his lips again.
"That's your concern?" he raised an eyebrow and chuckled.
Kira simply rolled her eyes and walked faster. When she arrived to their classroom, they immediately got stares. Some were glares while others were looks that she had to avoid. There was only one stare that was different from the others. Winston’s. He understood her situation with Tristian and why she hated him so much.
"Ms. Miles, Mr. Woods. Late to class again are we?" Mr. Thomas glared at us as we walked into the class.
"It's his fault. He doesn't understand the concept of 'leave me alone' even if it smacked him in the face," Kira said as Tristian walked to an empty seat in the back of the class. Mr. Thomas glared at her and she groaned. "I know, I know. Detention after school," she sighed. "That's what it always comes to and I'm more than happy to do that since I'm so used to it. Thanks, teach!"
"Oh, is that so?" he smirked at Kira. “Then I guess I can give you extended detention instead."
"What? Extended!?" she yelled confused. She heard Tristian chuckle in the background and immediately glared at him.
"You can join her too, Mr. Woods,” Mr. Thomas said.
"Fine by me," Tristian shrugged and placed his hands behind his head.
"You can't put me in the same room with him alone for hours! I'm allergic to his arrogance!" Kira whined. People in the class laughed at.
"That's enough, Ms. Miles. Go take a seat,” the teacher ordered.
"The only seat that’s left is in front of that jerk,” she said.
"Take. A. Seat."
Kira sighed, giving in and walked to the back of the classroom passing Winston.
"Sorry, I tried to save you a seat," he whispered to her.
"Well, try harder next time,” she frowned at him.
Kira took her seat in front of Tristian and stared at the back of Winston’s head. She mouthed the word "loser" for a few seconds hoping he would turn around. All of a sudden, she could feel Tristian’s eyes boring into the back of her head. She tried ignoring it but it’s was irritating her to the point where she couldn’t focus.
"Stop staring at me," she demanded as she turned around. "It's highly uncomfortable."
He leaned over his desk and brought his lips close to her ear.
"Just be glad that I'm not staring anywhere else,” He whispered.
Kira’s eye started to twitch and her cheeks began to burn. She moved away from him and he smirked and the tint on her cheeks. Turning back around in her seat, she brought her forehead to her desk. This is why I sit next to Winston.

"You got your first extended detention?" Cameron asked. "This isn't really surprising. You should've been getting extended detentions for a lot of the things you've done this year. Hell, I’m surprised that you haven’t been suspended yet."
Kira punched Cameron on his shoulder causing him to wince.
"It's all thanks to that asshole," she grumbled.
"What did he do?" Jackson asked.
"He existed,” Kira glared at her lunch tray while her friend Mina scoffed.
"You're being dramatic Kira," Mina said. "She got detention because she came late to class and she was being smart with the teacher. That's all."
Kira had completely forgotten that Mina was also in her class so she already knew the whole story. Trying to make herself the victim of the situation went flying out the window.
"And we're back with snacks," Damon said as to took his seat between Cameron and Mina. Winston sat next to Kira and handed her the cookies she asked him to buy for her.
“You got my favorites,” she said as she took the cookies from him. "You're the best!"
"I know,” Winston plastered a cocky smile on his face as he slung his arm around Kira’s shoulder.
"Ugh. Cut the flirting crap. You're making me sick," Leah stuck her tongue out in disgust pretending to gag.
"I wasn't even trying to flirt," Winston frowned.
"Sureeee,” Jackson stretched and rolled his eyes.
"Oh, Winston you're amazing!" Cameron said in a high pitched voice and batting his eyelashes. That was his attempt to mock Kira.
"I know," Damon said with a lower voice mocking Winston and put his arm around Cameron's shoulders. "Wanna go have sex later at my place?"
"Of course!”
Kira glared at them thinking of ways to make them grovel in pain. They always like to teased her relationship with Winston even though they knew that there was no real relationship between the two. They were just really close.
She leaned her head on Winston's shoulder and closed her eyes as the others just talked.
"What's wrong, babe?" he asked.
"Babe?" she lifted her head and looked at him with an eyebrow raised but he just shrugged. She returned her head to its place on his shoulder and sighed. "I'm just annoyed. Do you think you can give me a ride home? I know it’ll be pretty late but..."
"I'll be waiting for you in the parking lot when you're done,” he replied.
"Thank you, Winston. You're the best.”

Kira walked into the classroom and saw a few students who also had detention. There was no sign of a staff member in the room but the words “keep your mouths shut” were written in capital letters on the whiteboard.
She sat at a desk that was right next to the windows and took out her phone and earbuds. Even though she knew the detention policy, she didn’t care since there was no adult there to tell her off. When she listened to her music, that meant that she didn't want to be bothered. Her rules were “don't talk to me, don't touch me, don't even look at me.”
She closed her eyes and sunk into her seat. She let the music fill her head and take her on a journey away from reality. It was relaxing for her after a long and exhausting day. The fact that she had to stay there for another three hours just made me her more exhausted. As long as she had her music, she would be fine.
Moments later, one of her earbuds was pulled out of her ear causing her eyes to fly open to see who was disturbing her. She came face to face with Tristian. He was sitting backwards in the chair in front of her.
"You shouldn't fall asleep here," he grinned in her face and put the earbud in his ear. “What are you listening to?”
Kira glared at him and tugged the earbud out of his ear. “Tristian, can you please leave me alone?”
“No can do, babe,” he smirked.
She rolled her eyes, stood up, and sat at another desk. She scrolled through her phone to find another song when she got a text notification. It was from her ex-boyfriend. Great, another man-whore.
Don’t Answer: I know you're missing me. Just admit it and I'll take you back.
She growled at the text.
Me: Go jump off a bridge.
She smirked at her message and thought of more insults she could send him but a staff member walked into the classroom and yelled at Kira for being on her phone.
The staff member was only there for a few minutes before they informed the students that they were going to step out for a few minutes. Kira took that moment to play her music again.
She noticed that a group of boys that were in the room crowded around Tristian. They were snickering together and looking over at Kira. They threw paper balls at her to get her attention but she ignored them. Thankfully the staff member returned and ordered them to disperse before she snapped.
After three hours, their detention was over. As soon as she heard “you may,” Kira quickly left the classroom. She stopped by her locker to get her skateboard and headed to the school parking lot where Winston said he was waiting for her.
She walked through the hallways to get to the school's entrance. When she rounded a corner, she bumped into someone and fell down.
"Well, if it isn't Kira Miles herself.”
She looked up to see Tristian and his right-hand man Jason. Standing with them was her ex-boyfriend, Dylan.
"Hey, babe," Dylan smirked at her. "Got your text. Didn't really appreciate it though."
"What do you guys want?" She asked standing up and backing away from them. Kira was actually intimidated by their presence altogether. The three of them towered over her. She didn’t know what to expect from them.
"We just wanna have a chat with you,” Jason said stepping closer towards her. Tristian and Dylan stepped closer as well.
"I-I don't really have time to chat right now." Kira continued to back away but they only got closer.
"Its kind of important that we talk to you. We suggest you come with us or you'll get hurt," Tristian said.
"How do I know I won't get hurt either way?"
"That depends on how you behave, Princess,” Dylan chuckled causing a shiver to run up her spine.
Kira started to back away faster in fear. She was prepared to run at any moment but she ended up backing into a wall. She found herself surrounded with nowhere to go. She was terrified. Absolutely terrified.
"Hey!"
Kira turned her head down the hall to see Winston panting and glaring at the three other boys.
"Get away from her,” he growled.
Tristian chuckled to himself. "Why, if it isn't the hero himself," He backed away and pulled Dylan and Jason back with him. "Go on and take her. There's always a next time."
Hearing this, Kira ran over to Winston and wrapped her arms around him. He held her tightly and caressed her head to comfort her. She was relieved that he had showed up.
"Come on. Let me take you home." Winston shot the boys a final glare before he turned around and walked away with Kira.
Kira glanced behind her and saw Tristian staring back. He had a smirk on his face that unsettled her. She quickly looked away and tried to block him out of her mind.
