Birthday girl
“it’s the big day.”
she thought, as she woke up and saw her grumpy and sleepy face in the mirror. it was her eighteenth birthday. the very day she dreamt of, her whole childhood and teenage years. 18 seemed like opening doors to a bird trapped inside a cage for years. felt like a whole new world. well at least in her head it was that way. that’s because in the country she was born and raised in, there was almost no opportunities for young girls, especially if they’re under 18. circumstances popped the idea of immigration in her head from a very young age.
she had big dreams and plans for her future. she aspired to be a fashion designer. fashion was always her passion and she always saw herself running a clothing brand in another country, where she was appreciated and token serious.
as she was washing her face, little birthday girl noticed one string of white hair on her head. there was it. aging. the hardships she had overcame were starting to appear on her looks.
“and my journey hasn’t even started yet “she thought. not knowing waiting for the journey of your dreams to begin is itself, a journey.
she spent the next few hours before the little family celebration in complete peace. painting, reading, and journaling. she always preferred tranquility to excitement.
as an introvert, people never took her serious nor believed in her running a business. they thought she was boring and not “brave” enough for the adventure towards her big dreams and plans.
“it’s about time” she wondered, as the smell of cake began to fill her room.
wait, this is going way too slow. let’s flash forward to the moment she’s blowing out the candles.
“1...2...and 3!!!!” they shouted.
the lights turned on. she felt within and without, as she always does in parties and crowds.
she looked up, glanced at her employers standing around her, praising her, clapping their hands. then she looked at the big label beside her. it said “happy birthday boss!
