Prologue
I had a knife in my chest.
I never knew my body could feel so much pain but it only got worse when my attacker retrieved the blade and struck it inside of me once more, aiming for the heart. As the knife left my body the wound began gushing blood. Blood was draining from my veins as life was draining from me.
“Please… don’t…” I begged, but I sounded more like whispering. I tried to push him away with my hands but realized my arms were pinned to the ground by the assailant's knees.
Before I could finish the sentence, a sharp edge tore through my skin and muscle and finally reached my beating heart. Not much longer, I assume.
My murderer gave no response and was still crouching right on top of me as I tried to glimpse the face of my murderer. However, he was covered in a black mask. Actually I could not tell if it was a he or she because he or she was wrapped loosely in black. Tall, medium built, and that’s all. The only feature exposed was his or her eyes. But in such dim light, I could not tell the color of the eyes. I suddenly realized it was night time and I was lying on grass with trees on the side. Not much of an indication. Was this a park? Or a forest?
My killer removed the blade once more, sending blood to the surroundings. Quite lousy, in my opinion.
My heartbeat weakened and my vision got more and more blurry. As I struggled to keep my eyes open, the killer moved. In a split second, he heaved me on his shoulders. I was pretty sure it was a he now because of such strength. Oh but what if I were a woman or a kid? Could I be so sure? Being immobilized, I tried my best to look for hints of my identity. I noticed my nails were painted in a shade of blue and I was wearing a bracelet. Vine-like decorations but no luck in identifying the brand, as I was no expert.
Last thing I knew before my vision became slits and my consciousness swam away was that I was being thrown into a hole. The rocks still hurt my back as I landed but I ran out of breath to say anything anymore. The mud was slightly damp against my skin and more dirt was landing from above. I lost control of my body as some of the dirt got in my eyes and I was forced to watch as I was being buried.
And then it was all darkness.
