Anora Green
Being the only female on the force should be nerving, but it isn't, it makes me feel like I have achieved something, that I'm special. I sip on my coffee as I watch Greg attempt to get his rather large hand in the vending machine to get the last packet of M&M's. I roll my eyes and focus on my paperwork, how am I suppose to describe what I saw? a image consumed my mind, a body lay on the forest floor in ribbons, half of what is believed to be a female's torso is missing, his face is covered with scratches and blood, her throat torn out, flesh was scattered around her like rose petals. The third one this week, it could be a bear or even a wolf, but I have never seen a wolf with claws and teeth big enough to do the damage this body had obtained. I peered down at my watch, five o'clock, York is going to be a dick when I get home, just because he didn't get dinner on time. I collect my items and head for the door, the fresh air immediately soothes me, I slide into my car and start the engine, is it even safe for people to go near or in the woods anymore? should we be cutting it off from public use? no, that would only start mass panic. My small blue car flew down the road, eager to get home and rest after a stressful day, out of the corner of my eye I saw something move, I slammed on my brakes and jumped out of my car and into the woods. What am I doing? I asked myself over and over again as I rushed through the shrubbery, I need to do this if I want to prevent another victim ending up on this long list of deaths, I looked around, my ears straining to hear anything, all I could smell was the soil beneath my feet.
"Come out and face me you beast, I'm over your killing spree" I turned in circles ready to attack, I'm pretty good at martial arts but I'm almost 100% shore that's going to do nothing against a giant predator, I pull my gun out of my belt and unclip its safety, a rustle to my left makes me jump, I spin in that direction in a flash and aim, out jumps a wolf, jaws gnashing, it's eye's pinpointing my throat, I pull the trigger before it gets the chance to end my life, I sigh audibly, I stare down at the wolf, it was different, it was like it was in a violent craze, no reason for attack except blood lust. It seemed to be young, its hackles not properly formed and the youth still present in its facial features, I put my gun back in my waistband and call it in,
"chief it's me, detective Green, I think I've found our killer, a young wolf, under some diseases influence", his tough voice carries over into my ears,
"head home and get some rest, I've sent some officers to your location, oh and good job Green". I saunter back to my car, tired from today's events, I turn up the heater and warm my hands up before continuing my journey home, lucky it was an juvenile, otherwise I would have been toast. I pull into the makeshift driveway, already seeing Yorks disapproving glare in my mind, I open my door a inch and peek inside, he's location is unknown, I enter the house silently, my heart beating a mile a minute, maybe he's asleep, I turn on the light to see him sitting at my vintage table, starvation shining in his eyes,
"look I'm sorry, I had to face a killer wolf, and stop being dramatic, I fed you this morning". York meowed in disagreement, I don't know why I was so scared, I'm the dominant one in this partnership, he meowed indicating he was still hungry, I rushed to get him more food. I made a bowl of hot chicken noodles after a warm shower, I sat on the couch enjoying the feel of pajamas against my skin, 8 o'clock, I shuffled up the creaky stairs, suffering all the way there, why did I even get a house with stairs?, once I reached my room York already claimed the best side of the bed, I climb in next to him, mumbling about how I let a cat control my life, as I drifted into a blissful sleep my last thought was of the paperwork free desk I'm going to have tomorrow. I was woken up at 6 am to my phone blaring Shake it off, by Taylor Swift on repeat, I groaned and snatched the phone up,
"hello, Green speaking", there was a hesitant pause.
"Green I have bad news" the sheriffs voice filled my ears, " there was another body found".
