Ode To A Tree.

I'd like to tell a story if I may. About an old tree I saw one day. It was standing high upon a hill, as I looked out of a windowsill. It stood apart from all the rest. Then I got a funny feeling in my chest. I had to write down what I saw. So someday I could look back and I'd recall. How I once noticed a tree so old and alone. A century or more it must of grown. It had no leaves, its bark was gray. The birds and squirrels, they stayed away.... Oh how majestic it must have been. When it was a younger tree way back when. Its branches full of woven nests. Eggs nestled against their mothers feathered breasts. A place for birds and squirrels to play. Until one day.... "They moved away".... How sad and lonely it must have been. For a tree with no furry or feathered friends. Now it barely stands alone. It has no one. Its branches drying out in the sun. A tree that reached up to God each day. Untill it finally died away.... Over time, it is no longer there. Nothing left but empty air. Its had its time upon the earth. Served its purpose and shared its worth. To every bird and squirrel it would embrace. They had a home. They had a place. A place to fly and scurry around. From the tips of its branches, down to the ground. Gone this mighty tree, but not forgotten. Though it has fallen and its trunk is rotten. Its remains will surely feed the earth. Till once again Mother Nature will give birth. And "another tree" will then rise. Reaching up to God and touching the skies. Filling in that empty air. Where once a mighty tree stood there. Heaven is full of them, with a place all their own. Where they will no longer be alone. Whereas once again birds and squirrels can play. I hope to join them there someday.... (So if you see an old tree, don't forget. This story I told here so you won't regret. A time when you once may have climbed a tree. And beheld all there was around for you to see.)
