Summary

"Do you know the Law of Attraction?" Xante asked her, his blue eyes sparkling with curiosity. Chidimma picked a fry from her plate and swiped it in some mayonnaise and chewed. "Physics?" "Yes," "Then no, I nearly failed Physics. Thank you, next," She replied and Xante chuckled. "The Law of Attraction simply means that whatever you manifest into your life is what will happen. I prayed and manifested you in my darkest moment. Someone who made my dark thoughts go away and brought light into my life," He explained, using his fingers as demonstrative help, as he kept his eyes on hers, hoping she understood the connection he felt between them. Chidimma nodded. "So does that mean we should do that Nigerian thanksgiving in church next Sunday? Cause I'm broke, you're going to have to buy the foodstuff oh. Money no dey my pocket," She asked him, eyes on his suit that held his muscular torso and broad shoulders as she felt her white lab coat. He shook his head as a look of confusion came upon his rugged face. Xante laughed as he said; "Mrs. Deliano, what would I do without you?" ------------------ A CEO. A pediatrician. He doesn't like children. She adores them. His salary; billions of dollars each year. Hers? $250,000. He needs a wife. She needs a wedding of her dreams. His parents don't care. Hers really do.

Chapter 1: Angeli-Angelina You Dey Cooli My Temperature

Song: On the Low by Burna Boy

“You are such an idiot. How could you break your arm? I’m sure even your 4-year-old daughter is smarter than your ass,” Raleigh Deliano shrieked with her hand on Valentinio Deliano’s arm, her husband of 5 years. As she swatted his arm in fury, he flinched in pain and embarrassment as his brothers, Xante, with his curly black hair and Omarion, with his short dark hair, laughed behind the cameras, which would be used to blackmail the youngest son. His twin sister, Valentini “Tini” was playing a game of rock-paper-scissors with brown-haired, blue-eyed Isabella, her niece and was mind blown over the fact that a 4-year-old was handing her ass to her on a platter as gold as her custom name necklace.

“I was trying to show my motorcycle tricks to Ella,” He lied, his black, shaggy, shoulder-length hair falling over his eyes as his head was bowed in shame. Raleigh took the opportunity to swat him again and Xante’s laughter increased as he watched the spectacle on the hospital bed. He had rushed from work after hearing that his brother had gotten into an accident, thanking God that he had not gotten anything more than a fractured arm. As his white button-up bulged over his muscular torso, he wrapped his arms around his stomach shaking in absolute mirth.

“Motorcycle skills! Showing our dau-” Raleigh was becoming red with anger as her green eyes squinted at her impish husband.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

After hearing multiple knocks, she opened the door to a beautiful, caramel-skinned, female doctor. She had her kinky hair in a high bun with her makeup done to enhance her natural glow. She wasn’t very tall, about 5"8 with 3-inch heels, but her eyes were shining with confidence and passion.

“Delianos?” She questioned in a voice line with a sort of British accent. Raleigh guessed that by her white doctor’s coat and her nametag that she was a doctor but was surprised to see her instead of the family doctor. She nodded apprehensively and let her in.

Xante was in absolute shock. The most stunning woman had just walked in and was hypnotized by the sway of her hips. His tall 6"4 build would probably tower over her short one and her caramel legs that led to an African print midi pencil skirt and a skin-tight blouse, an outfit that showed her curves. She walked in with the confidence of a regal queen.

Damn.

“My name is Doctor Chidimma N. You don’t need to know what the N. means,” She started with a sense of humour that made Xante smile as her eyes flitted over Valentinio’s file. “Motorcycle accident. Fractured arm. Am I correct?” She asked, dark brown eyes roaming the group.

“Yes,” Valentinio answered and she nodded.

“Ok,” She rested her hands on the ledge of the cart that was topped with flowers and get-well-soon cards, “I know I am not your family doctor. I will be covering for Dr. Smithson, or should I say Dr. Sackel. She is currently on her honeymoon and I am covering for her for the next two weeks,”

“If I’m totally honest, I don’t deal with you,” with a point to Val, “I deal with her,” and a point too little Ella, who gazed at the queen-like woman with adoration, a feeling most children had upon sight of her. Adanma flashed her a cute smile and Ella flashed her an even bigger one.

“At least according to the Doctorate of Pediatrics and Child Psychology sitting on the wall in my library,”

A small chuckle passed the room.

“So... let us help each other. You make it easy for me, I get an annual salary. You make it difficult; I still get an annual salary. Either way, I am a happy woman. But it is probably best if things are easier if you know what I mean,”

Heavy laughter erupted in the room.

“So, Val,” She walked from his bed and checked his IV, “Pain level. From a 1 being ‘I feel like superman’ and a ‘holy crap’ being ‘I’m pretty sure I will feel this ish till I’m 90’, ” She asked, slowing the flow of the IV. Val thought and tilted his head.

“What’s the middle?” Val asked in confusion. Doctor Chidimma stopped for a second and thought.

“Um... ‘It hurts but I don’t want to look stupid’,” She replied with a serious face and the room erupted into laughter once more.

“Yeah,” Val replied with a toothy grin, “I’m at that level. Just add 1 to it.”

“Ok, ” She took a pen and wrote things down, “For you, I recommend the 500mL dose of Motrin IB and a once-a-week physiotherapy session. The bone should heal itself naturally and the physio is just so your arm heals straight,”

She wrote the details of the prescription of the weird-named drug and tore the yellow sheet after signing it. Handing it to Raleigh, she asked.

“Any questions?”

“How old are you?” Omarion blurted out, “I’m sorry, for asking, but you look younger than me and I’m 27,”

“In that case, I am younger than you. I am 26, turning 27 this November,” The room was in shock. How was she a doctor at that age?

“Then, how are you a doctor?” Xante asked out of pure curiosity. How was this girl beautiful, smart, and funny all at once? Chidimma looked him in the eye, then her eyes trailed over his body. She finished her gaze by smirking.

“Graduated high school at 15. Finished from U of T at 19. Finished UC San Frans School of Medicine at 23. Did residency here at the Victorian Health Center at 25 and now I work here full-time? Any more questions?”

The whole room was dumbfounded. this woman was practically a genius. The most surprised of the group was Xante as he could not believe how smart she is. His nerves were in overdrive as butterflies roamed his stomach; he was developing a crush. Despite his height and broad shoulders, he felt small compared to her intellectually. His light blue eyes blinked slowly, photographing her beauty in his brain.

“No. I’m good,” He replied huskily in a slow drawl. The entire room could feel the electricity between them as they looked at each other.

“Good,” She repeated and turned on her heels, “Please, Mrs. Deliano, give your husband a few hits for even thinking of getting on a death trap,” She told Raleigh before leaving with a wide smile on her face, “Bikes don’t make a bad boy; they make fractured bones,”

“Thank you,” Raleigh said desperately, with a look to her husband. Doctor Chidinma smiled at Ella as she closed the door. The room was quiet.

“You should have asked, you know,” Tini spoke, at last, the question pointed to the awed brothers who stared at the door with adoration.

“Asked what?” Omarion questioned innocently.

“If she had a man, dumbo!”

“That’s a rude question, though,” Xante replied, eyes still on the grey hospital door, head in the clouds. Tini threw the boys a pointed look.

“I’m a jeweller. That custom name necklace resting on her neck is either a gift from someone or a gift from herself,”

“Yeah, well, it’s too late now.” Xante threw back in regret as Tini scoffed and went back to getting her ass handed to her by a 4-year-old in rock-paper-scissors.
