Chapter 1
Late.
You can be late for dance lessons. You can be late for tactics class. It is possible to be late for evening tea. Late to a ball. You can literally be late for anything else!
You know what you can't be late for.....
WARRIOR SELECTIONS
The most important day for young soldiers trying to join a legion. Am I a young solider....technically no. Am I trying to join a legion...also no. Am I their instructor....uh yeah!
So I cant be LATE!
I fumbled around as I was buckling up my boots. I almost tripped as I stood up to go check in my mirror. My hair was still sticking out of my helmet. I quickly re-combed it and put my helmet back on. It would be so embarrassing to walk in after representatives from the legion had arrived. I hastily polished my belt and threw on the rest of my uniform before sprinting towards the arena.
This is my first year as an instructor for the Solventine Academy of the Warrior Arts. I myself technically never graduated from an academy, but I was granted special permission to become an instructor by the headmaster. None of the other instructors know about that though. It's actually a really big honor to work for this academy. This is the best academy among all of the others in the three warrior nations. And I can't believe I'm about to make a fool out of myself by being late to for our biggest event!
Warrior Selections don't happen very often. Most of the officers in a legion serve for life...so unless they die or were for some reason removed out of office...rarely are new members accepted. This past month, however, many legion officers were discovered to be working undercover for another warrior nation's legion. Rumors I've heard had said 2 of the top ten officers were caught leaking information and were immediately imprisoned.
After climbing down all 5 flights of stairs in the dormitory I paused for a second. The sunlight was really blaring down this morning and it is still so early in the day. The light was giving me a slight headache. Probably a sun element is nearby, I thought to myself. Those beings are so annoying I really hope I don't run into whoever they are.
As I ran past the dormitory gates I could see the arena's flags peaking out from behind the hill. There is still another hour before the students have to arrive which is why it was so quiet. Only birds and a few other creatures were moving about. I think ill make it on time.
The area surrounding the arena is so pretty. On either side of the walkway, there were alternating rows of red and purple flowers. Their golden leaves glistened as they swayed about in the slight breeze. Towards the peak of the hill, there is a line of beautiful fountains that circle around the arena which is down inside the valley. They actually form a protective field. They were placed by the original founders of the academy many generations ago. They keep out dangerous creatures and other non-warriors. The arena is definitely the safest place in the academy.
As I passed the protective barrier the first thing I noticed was how much brighter the sun felt. Why though?
I kept running towards the arena but the thought that a sun element this powerful was nearby bothered me.
