BRYAN
The night was alive with the pulsating rhythm of anticipation as I stepped into the dazzling world of Jake’s brand-new, world-class studio. Bright lights and electrifying energy surrounded me, and a wave of excitement coursed through the room.
“Hey man, thanks for coming!” Jake and Ollie greeted me warmly, shaking my hand and giving me friendly side hugs as I walked into the awesome new studio.
“Congrats, Jake! I’m really proud of you, man. You’ve turned your dream into reality!” I laughed and gave him a big hug. I couldn’t believe how amazing this studio was. When Jake told me about the grand opening, I had no idea it would be this impressive. It was a top-notch place with all the latest gear.
Jake led us to a table filled with all sorts of drinks, and we grabbed some champagne to celebrate.
“Where’s May?” I wondered aloud, noticing her absence.
“She’ll be here soon. She went to pick up a friend,” Ollie replied, taking a sip of his wine.
The whole place was buzzing with people dancing, chatting, and having a great time. The studio was huge, well-lit, and beautifully decorated.
Jake had invested in excellent speakers and musical instruments, which I thought was a great choice. Up-and-coming artists were taking the stage, and the energy in the room was electric. I was having a blast just watching all the action.
Then, I heard May’s voice – she called me “boobear.” She gave me a friendly peck on the cheek and kissed Ollie on the lips. Clearly, they were dating.
“Guys, meet my friend Autumn Shepherd,” May introduced her friend with a big grin.
“Hi, Autumn,” I shook her hand, and Ollie gave her a casual wave.
Autumn was as tall as May, with straight black hair. She looked like a model, maybe even a colleague of May’s. She had a dark and striking beauty. May did her best to make Autumn feel comfortable, chatting with us and then turning her attention back to her friend.
May was on the lookout for Jake, wondering where he was in the crowded room. She wanted to congratulate him and express her pride in his achievement.
“Yeah,” Ollie and I chimed in agreement, smiling and pouring ourselves more champagne.
We assumed Jake would be around somewhere in the studio, given the packed house.
A few minutes later, Jake appeared with a brunette woman. He had his arm around her lower back. I looked closely at her since I hadn’t seen her before. Maybe she was just a friend, I thought.
Jake introduced her as Gemma, an artist he was currently collaborating with. She had an oval-shaped face with multiple facial piercings, and I noticed a tongue ring when she laughed.
Honestly, she wasn’t my type. I preferred women without piercings, though I could tolerate tattoos. I had a couple of tattoos myself – one on my right arm and a bolder one on my back.
Getting those tattoos had been a wild college adventure. I had just broken up with my girlfriend that day and was heartbroken. I had planned to attend a big music concert, but instead, I found myself in a tattoo shop.
I called May because she had always wanted a tattoo, but Ollie had never been a fan. So, in an impulsive moment fueled by my breakup woes, we both got tattoos. I knew she wished she could leave Jake and start fresh with me, but I could never betray my friends.
By the way, I still hadn’t figured out the meaning behind my tattoos.
May led us in a toast to Jake, filling our glasses with wine. It felt great to see Jake so happy after working hard to achieve his lifelong dream.
As the party continued late into the night, we reminisced about our university days, sharing stories and laughter.
My phone chimed with a message, and I glanced at it. Just as I started to read the message, I felt a warm touch on my skin. I looked up, and it was Autumn.
She had taken a seat beside me, a mischievous glint in her eyes and a flirtatious smile on her lips – one that was hard to ignore. She leaned in close, her face near my ear, and whispered, “Would you like to go somewhere quieter and more relaxing, Mr. Brent?”
My gut feeling was right. I sighed and adjusted my seat, trying to keep a poker face. I shot a knowing look at May, silently telling her that I knew she had set this up. She just shrugged, giving me a half-annoying smile with a raised eyebrow.
She had decided to play matchmaker today, fully aware that I was coming alone to the party.
I chuckled softly, still locked in eye contact with Autumn. She had been pushing me to start dating again for months after my breakup with Gabriella. Sometimes she even conspired with Millicent, my assistant at work, to secretly arrange dates for me. She would always say, “Bryan, it’s time to move on. Open your heart, find love again,” and all that stuff.
Speaking of breakups, my split with Gabriella had been incredibly dramatic. It hit me hard because I really loved her and thought we were headed for forever. But then, out of the blue, she went on live television during an interview and announced our breakup without any warning.
So, I was still mending my broken heart, and tonight was one of those nights when I wasn’t really in the mood for a blind date.
But when I thought about Autumn’s offer, I figured a little distraction might not be such a bad idea after a hectic day. Plus, she was undeniably gorgeous and hard to resist.
I didn’t know how much May had told her about me, but Autumn was persistent in her flirting – running her fingers over my thigh and giving me a seductive look. It was starting to stir something within me.
With those thoughts in mind, I decided to go along with it. I placed my hands on her shoulders, gently guiding her closer to me. Using my other hand, I tilted her face toward mine. When our eyes met, I silently mouthed, “Where do you have in mind?”
She responded with a playful smile, biting her lower lip. “Follow me,” she whispered, leading the way out.
I chuckled and caught Ollie’s eye. He just shrugged and shook his head before I nodded and followed Autumn. Without words, we had just communicated our intentions.
As I stepped away from the noisy party, I scanned the area for Autumn, but I couldn’t see her yet. I pulled out my phone to read the message I had received earlier.
When I finally looked up from my phone, I was met with the sight of the most captivating and mesmerizing person I had ever seen – a true goddess. Instantly, my heart raced, and I felt a tingling sensation. It was as if I had been struck by Cupid’s arrow.
I pinched my chest to quell the excitement bubbling within me. I momentarily forgot how to breathe as an intense attraction pulled me toward her.
She was stunningly beautiful, with a shapely figure and wavy dark brown hair that danced in the night breeze. When she briefly turned her face in my direction, I caught a glimpse of her striking hazel eyes, gleaming with allure.
Her black mini dress hugged her body, accentuating her curves. For a brief moment, it felt like we were in our own world of perfection. I closed my eyes to absorb the moment and opened them only to find that she had disappeared.
Was it all a dream? I groaned quietly in disappointment as I snapped back to reality. Autumn stood beside me, flashing a wide grin that revealed her teeth.
“I’ve been looking for you,” she said, taking my hand and leading me to where I had parked my car. I stole a few glances back, hoping to catch another glimpse of the mystery woman, but she was gone, and a sense of longing washed over me.
When we reached my car, I was taken aback when Autumn confidently asked for my keys, presumably to drive. Her boldness surprised me.
“Hell no!” I whispered firmly. There was no way I was letting her drive my Aston Martin. I muttered the words to myself.
To my astonishment, she persisted, and I continued to resist. Eventually, she settled into the passenger seat, wearing a slightly annoyed expression.
I couldn’t help but grin at her audacious attitude and the amusing look on her face as we drove away. However, deep down, I couldn’t shake the feeling that my encounter with the mystery lady was far from over.
