Prologue: Life Happens
Memorial Day
Finn Korey is the most arrogant, stubborn, infuriating guy I have ever met and I am in love with him. How cliche though, right? Falling in love with your best friend. The night on his boat changed everything for us. It was so good, we were so good, but than the stars that held our secrets disappeared and the sun along with reality showed it's face. And boy was it a slap in mine.
Finn and I have been best friends since we were little. I'm not going to give you little details about how we shared lunches or some random shit like that. He was Finn, he was always there for me and I was always there for him. Our parents have joked our entire life about us getting together that when it actually happened, I wasn't surprised. I was happy, so happy.
It was Memorial Weekend which means another party was being held in Marcie's Edge, a small beach town on Long Island, NY. Summer in Marcie's was always hectic between the incoming tourists, annual beach bashes and our parents stressing about the incoming tourists and annual beach beaches plus their own events which include the charity of the month or an award of some kind. Our families were well-off, but we had the town to thank. My grandmother, for instance, married into the Carlisle family who happened to be one of the town's founder's families, so we are pretty well taken care of. Finn's family, though, are townies and him and his brother live out on Marcie's coast with us. Their family has a house in Marcie's which is right across from mine. Finn's brother, Ethan, takes care of the house year round and Finn lives on his boat. His dad bought it for him for his 16th birthday and hasn't left it since. Finn's parents live inland of Marcie's Edge. From there, it takes two bridges and a highway to get to our strip of land in Marcie's Edge that consists of all of our homes, beach, and small ma and pop shops. I love it.
The Memorial Day White Party was always a good time. We welcomed the summer and warm weather at the Southward Ho Country club, a block down from the marina. Southward Ho was where we held anything and everything. I attended with my parents and my older brother, Dylan. My older sister, Kristie was home with my younger sister, Cookie whose real name was Katherine but only my mom called her that.
Thinking back now, I thought about all the things that I ignored. My mom taking a drink off of every server tray that passed her, my dad was nowhere to be found after only a half hour of being there, but I chose to ignore everything when it came to Finn. Nothing else mattered at the time. I know that was selfish and I didn't deliberately do it, but it's what happened.
Finn doesn't attend parties unless he can drink some beer and sit on the beach or his boat. So, I knew exactly where to find him. It is safe to say me and Finn had sex that night. It wasn't either of ours first time but yet it was more special than I ever could imagine.
This story isn't about what lead up to me and Finn, it was what happened after. We were busy discussing OUR future plans, but life had another idea.
