CHAPTER ONE - UNKNOWN

CAROLINE GRAY SITS on a traditional black armchair with a steaming cup of black coffee in one hand and a small brown journal in the other. She takes a sip as she reads the little words on the pages quickly and gets startled when she hears someone banging loudly on the front door, causing her to drop the cup.

“Damn it!” Caroline looks down at the mess and lets out an annoyed sigh, then she places the book on the glass coffee table in front of her and stands up. She steps over the mess, glancing at it in disgust and makes her way to the front door.

“Who is it?” Caroline stops a few centimeters away from the door and listens. When no one replies, she rolls her eyes and begins her trek to the kitchen when she hears yet another loud bang. Letting out a frustrated groan, she stomps back over to the door in anger.

“Who the hell is it?” Again, no answer. “Stop banging on my door and leave me the hell alone!” When Caroline turns to walk away again, the front door bursts open, the force knocking her to the ground. She lets out a pained whimper and looks up to see the dark shadow of a man.

Dominick Pierce steps into the dim light and smirks down at Caroline. She gasps when she sees his face. “Dominick? What are you doing here?” Dominick takes another step towards Caroline and grabs her arm, forcefully pulling her up from the floor.

“I’m looking for your daughter. Elena, is it?” Caroline’s face transforms from shock to complete horror.

“What do you want from her?” Dominick takes in a deep breath and lets it out slowly before tightening his hold on her. She lets out yet another whimper and tries to get away from him, but his grip on her is too firm.

“You know what I want, Caroline. She turns sixteen in two days which means that her powers will start appearing and we both know that’s not going to happen.” Caroline attempts to look confident but fails miserably.

“I will not let you hurt my little girl.” Dominick lets out a dark chuckle and pulls Caroline closer to him. He moves his lips down to her ear.

“Either you tell me where she is, or I will find her myself. Nothing is going to stop me from destroying what you and Nick created.” Caroline clenches her fists in anger then does the first thing that comes to mind. She kicks him where it hurts most and when Dominick finally lets her go, she makes a run for the front door. Caroline runs across the front yard and jumps into her 2018 Toyota Camry Hybrid.

She starts the car and speeds away from her own home. When the manor is out of sight, Caroline reaches into her back pocket and pulls out her cell phone. She dials Elena’s number and brings the phone up to her ear with a shaking hand. After the third ring, Elena picks up, and Caroline lets out a sigh of relief.

“Mom?”

“Elena, baby where are you?”

“I’m at Java Jones with Jamie and Maureen.” Caroline lets out a cry and sniffles.

“Mom? Mom, what’s going on? Are you okay?” Caroline takes in a deep breath and lets it out slowly.

“Elena, honey. I need you to listen to me very carefully.”

“Mom, you’re scaring me.”

“Oh, no. Baby, don’t be scared. Everything is going to be okay just don’t come home.”

“What? Why?” Caroline sighs and tightens her hand on the steering wheel, making her knuckles turn white.

“Don’t worry about it, honey. You and your brother need to stay where you are until I,” before she can finish her sentence, Dominick appears in front of her, and his eyes turn an amber yellow. She screams as he picks up the car and throws it to the side of the road.
