The Hunger Games: Thresh

A bright light blinds Thresh as he descends up from the ground. Although he was big and physical, Thresh hated all of the killing. The games turned good people into killers. Once his eyes finally adjust, he quickly notices he is in a field surrounded by wooded area resembling a temperate, deciduous forest. He looks around. All of the tributes are in a giant circle standing on pedestals. In the center of all of the tributes is the cornucopia, a giant supply of everything needed to survive. Thresh looks for the other tribute from his district, Rue. They make eye contact and Thresh mouths to Rue, “Run to the trees.” He is not worried one bit about Rue because he’s known her since she was born. She is a very level-headed person who knew her way around things. A countdown began getting closer and closer to zero.

There were 5 seconds left and all of tributes got in a sprinting position ready to go. Thresh knew what he was going for, a bag of supplies and a sword. He had his eye on particularly one sword with a very prudent curve in the blade. The way it looked was so inviting to him, and he was determined to have it. “3.. 2... 1” Thresh takes off straight for the sword, and he’s one of the first to reach the cornucopia. A pack with a water bottle is grabbed by Thresh. He then snags the curved sword. The boy from district 7, who then confronts him, tries to stab him with a spear. He completely and utterly fails as Thresh deflects it as if it is nothing, and he slashes the boy’s throat. “I’m sorry,” Thresh whispered under his breath. Rue, who is the next thing on his mind, is nowhere to be seen. “It is better for me to die than for her,” he thinks to himself with a selfless heart. He guesses she went straight into the woods rather than risking her life going into the cornucopia. He quietly mutters to himself, “Good girl.”

The tributes from districts 1 and 2 seem to be under some alliance because Thresh notices they are not killing each other but teaming up on others. Seeing that he is outnumbered, Thresh takes off full speed into the woods. He keeps walking until he reaches what he notices to be a wheat field. It’s perfect. It not only offers food for him to salvage, but cover from the tall grass. A loud cannon goes off 12 times before finally stopping. 12 tributes are dead. Thresh begins saying one word over and over. “Survive… Survive… Survive.” He can only hope and pray that his dear friend and fellow tribute Rue is alive and well. He stands there in a muse and his mouth gaping open thinking about Rue. The sun is setting, so Thresh decides to set up camp and try his to get shuteye. When he lays down on the soft earth, music begins playing, and pictures of the fallen tributes flash in the sky. Just as the music stopped playing, Thresh shut his eyes. He heard the footsteps. “I swear I saw him take off in this direction.” It’s the tributes with the alliance from 1 and 2. “He is our biggest threat other than the girl from 12, we have to find and kill him.” Thresh lays as still as possible in the tall grass, his heart beating out of his chest.
