A CHARACTER SKETCH

"The character you describe is very interesting. But characters need fleshing out. A name helps the reader know the character. It also help the writer. He has scars. How did he get them? How does this character dress? What kinds of articles does he write for the school paper. Specifics are what create a character. Note how many abstract terms you use; you want specifics. Add some dialog. Some description beyond the scars. If a stray dog walked up to the character, how would he treat the dog? If the character applied for an after school job, what would it be? Does he ever talk with anyone about how he got the scars?
How do girls in the class react to him? How do teachers react? Also a character sketch is not a story. You need to give your characters problems to overcome. You need to look more closely at the following grammar issues: 1. The first sentence changes tense. Either write in past or present tense. Make sure your verbs match. 2. In the first paragraph, the pronoun “Them” in the last sentence has no clear antecedent. 3. First sentence of the second paragraph is a misplaced modifier. “Words” are not members of the school paper. 4. In the third paragraph you change tenses again. 5. What is the waking crack of day? 6. Does he only have scars every now and then."
