Summary

There are many places people tend to think of where serial killers tend to slaughter their victims, but rarely do people ever think of a murder mystery within a local high school. In this story, the reader follows eighteen-year-old Claudia Reidell who is a student at Vandale High School and lives an almost average life -- until she starts receiving odd texts from an anonymous stranger. Starting small and progressively growing worse, the texts lead to Claudia's almost-kidnapping and the shocking murder of her closest friend. Throughout this story, you will be taken along Claudia's journey with fellow classmates in search of her best friend's killer and the unknown number trying to contact her. Thinking she has a lead in the case, Claudia soon learns along the way that not everything appears to be what it seems.

To the person who happens to come across my journal:

I hate humanity. In fact, hatred doesn’t fully encompass my emotion — or lack thereof, technically — towards people. Words such as animosity, loathing, repugnance, maybe even revulsion are much more sufficient than mere hatred. Ah, yes. Revulsion. Such a word can truly connote every single aspect of my views against the human race. Not only do I utterly despise people, but I am also disgusted and loathe anything that has to do with humanity.

Now based upon my previous assertion, you are probably wondering who — or what — I am exactly. No, I am not some extraterrestrial being that has invaded the earth and now must deal with the disgrace known as the human race. No, I am not artificial intelligence, perfectly crafted by mere mortal hands and somehow usurped my human designer. No, I am not a god looking down upon mortal people and wondering why they continue to exist. I am not even a stereotypical villain that one would read in books or watch in films. And no, I am not a combination of any of those previous things I just mentioned, either. In fact, I happen to be the very thing I despise the most: a human being.

Now at this point, you are probably thinking in your head how hypocritical of me to hate my own kind. My own species. My very own flesh and blood. But, you see, one can be the very thing that they hate the most and still detest it nonetheless. You see, one does not get to choose who they turn out to be because everything happens by chance. In my case, I happen to be a human being. But that still doesn’t dictate my thoughts and opinions when it comes to the human race. Whether I am human or not is irrelevant because at the end of the day, humans disgust me and ought to be annihilated into extinction.

Annihilation, you may ask? Well, ideally I would much prefer if every single human being was to be brutally destroyed from the face of this planet earth (except myself, of course). However, I do recognize that reality does not always pan out my idealism into existence. In fact, I unfortunately must deal with the issues regarding the fact that I am not always able to properly execute my plans into reality. You see, I have a strong tendency to muster up well thought-out plans in my mind, but reality — or more specifically, human beings — tend to get in the way of those plans, preventing them from ever coming into fruition. Hence, it would not necessarily be realistic for me to completely wipe out the entire human race on my own, no matter how clever my plans could possibly be.

Instead of full-blown annihilation, what I plan on doing instead is taking my hatred out on specific targets in my local area. In other words, I plan on murdering distinct individuals that I detest the most. While humanity as a whole is worth abhorring since humans are so despicable and utterly unlikable, it would be much more satisfying to eliminate the worst people first, since it would make humanity seem slightly better than it would be if I didn’t do so.

But murder, you may ask? How could one do such a thing? Well, the only reason I use the word “murder” is so I could speak to you in mere human terms, and the only word that can fully encompass what I intend to do is indeed “murder”. However, while murder typically has a strong negative connotation associated with it, I genuinely do not see it that way. In fact, my whole purpose of killing certain individuals is so I can better improve the quality of the human race as a whole. While it would be much more ideal to completely erase any form of humanity from the face of planet earth, the least I could do with my abilities is to remove the ones that plague the human race the most. That way, I can at least create a population that only consists of benevolent and somewhat likable individuals (in my eyes, of course).

But who do I plan on “murdering”, you may ask? Well, that, unfortunately, must be left to me and and me alone. But, if you so much desire as to know who I intend to remove first, well, I can give you an idea as to where this will all occur. And I will only sum it up into a matter of two sentences:

Abandoned mansions, gloomy forests, grimy kitchens — they seem to be the type of places a serial killer would lure and murder their victims. But what nobody would have ever guessed was that Vandale High School would be the perfect location for homicide.
