prologue

My smile was as bright as the sun when I saw the biggest roller coaster I had ever seen in my entire life. It looked as if it was reaching the sky at how tall the structure was, and it felt like I’d faint if I dare to try and ride it. I looked at Hiro, admiring how chic and cool he was by just wearing a simple black shirt and ripped pants that hugged his slender yet sturdy long legs. It’s not fair how amazing he looked when only wearing simple clothes, damn it. And it didn’t help that he was born with that kind of face—perfectly proportionate and attractive, one look at him and anyone would find themselves gawking.

The air around Hiro Blaise was dangerous, and even a normal person living a normal life could tell what kind of man my boyfriend was. Behind those sharp, amber eyes hide a ruthless man capable of slaughtering people without batting an eye. I already witnessed how brutal Hiro could get, and with the kind of childhood he had, it wasn’t that surprising. He was trained to become the leader of the Blaise family, one of the strongest Mafia groups in the underground world. Not only was Hiro born in a family that operates illegal businesses, he was also trained to become an assassin.

I knew what people would say if they hear that I, a guy that weighs more than three hundred pounds was dating an infamous killer born in a Mafia family. And not just any family, it’s the Blaise family. They’d laugh at me and mock me for being ambitious. How could Hiro, a guy with a face that could seduce anyone, date someone like me?

It’s a thought that had been haunting me ever since Hiro and I became a couple. I wasn’t suited for him. With the way I looked and the kind of life I was living, the two of us were just different.

But that didn’t stop Hiro from loving me. Over time, he proved how much he treasured me, and that no matter what my appearance was or how heavy I am or how ugly I see myself, for Hiro, I was the only one he could love.

And there had been hundreds of moments that I felt how much Hiro loved me.

He noticed I was staring at him and raised a brow, amused. “What?” Hiro asked, taking my hand to hold it.

“Nothing,” I said, averting my gaze off from that tempting smile of his.

I’m glad we could finally go to the amusement park. The last time we did, we got into trouble that caused both Hiro’s fathers to come and help us. Right now, we could finally spend the rest of our time together, just like what we always wanted.

Right?

“Finally,” Hiro said, sighing out loud. “We can have some fun without Clark or anyone else bothering us.”

I chuckled as I recalled how annoyed Hiro was when Clark kept suggesting making people come with us. I wouldn’t have minded it, as I wanted to know more about his family. The kids were nothing but adorable, I’m sure Hiro would have yielded if they begged to come with us.

“This is the same amusement park where we first met, right?” I said, grinning at Hiro as we strolled around the place, enjoying the view.

Many different people came to have fun with either their family or friends. Some were on their date, eating desserts and buying cutesy stuff to use it as props for taking photos. Being in this place, it felt as if Hiro was just any other man who was out to have fun. He didn’t carry the responsibility of being the next leader of the Blaise group, or the hundreds of contracts people wanted him to do just because they wanted to take advantage of his reputation.

Right now, right at this moment, Hiro’s my boyfriend. And that’s what matters the most.

“Yeah, it is,” Hiro said, flashing me a sentimental smile.

This was just like any ordinary dates we went to, but being in this place, the very same place where Hiro and I first met, I couldn’t help but be giddy. Who would have known that years of being away from each other, we would have found each other and fell in love? He was the boy who saved me from that maniac, the one who risked his life just for me.

Not anyone could do that, especially not a kid like him.

Hiro was…my hero.

And he’ll always be.

I was about to tighten my hold on Hiro’s hand, but it suddenly disappeared, and everything around me turned black in just a blink of an eye. I tried to scream but no words came out of my mouth as I struggled to breathe.

“—this the guy?”

I gasped loudly, my heartbeat pounding out my chest as I realization dawned upon me. Three men surrounded me, yanking my hair, and twisting my arms behind my back as they forced me inside the van. Everything happened so fast that it didn’t give me the time to scream. By the time someone took the blindfold off me, I was inside a dingy, dark room and it smelled pungent it made me nauseous.

I was tied in a chair, facing a man who sat on top of the table, his legs crossed. I tried looking up at him, but my body wouldn’t listen to me. Every muscle joint hurt, and it felt like my body was made out of lead.

What’s happening?

I—

The man in front of me grinned. “Did you enjoy your little vacation with Hiro, Paige?”

I recognized that voice.

That—

“Thank you so much! I hope we can be good friends in the future.”

Ichiro hopped off the table and walked towards me, his fingers gripping my chin as he forced me to look up. I shuddered upon seeing those dark eyes staring at me as he smirked triumphantly. “You should. Because it’ll be the last time you’ll see that motherfucker, Paige. I’ll make sure of that.”

No.

Please.

Let this be a dream.

Hiro.

Save me.
