Chapter 1

Pathological liar

The cool morning breeze rubbed against my cheeks as I walked towards the enormous silver gate. I rang the bell and took a step back looking around. I had never given much thought to the structure of the gate. It sealed a perimeter wall of the mansion which was in a rich neighborhood and one had to be loaded to even afford a tour around the estate.

For the last one year this mansion had been my home. Nostalgic memories of the day Jayson asked me to move in with him come crashing. He had traveled for his movie and to make up for his absence he asked me out on a date. He showed up to the date with pictures of this mansion and two others.

“I wanted this to feel much like home as possible." He said as we finished our dessert. It was chocolate ad raspberry tarts.

“What are you talking about” Jay is never good with words. Whatever he lacks in filters he makes up for with looks.

He gave me his million-dollar smirk. “I am sorry this is me telling you we are moving in together." He put in. I could not help the smile on my face then.

“Good morning Miss Collins?” Sean the head of security greeted calling me from my thoughts. “Is everything okay?” He obviously knew about our recent breakup.

“Yeah, everything is great," I explained looking at my watch. It was thirty minutes to 8:00 am.

I had left my house an hour earlier in the hope to pick some work documents before heading to work. I choked as I remembered how I had run out of the house a few weeks ago. Every cell in me was telling me to retract and just had to work and honestly was it not for the reason that I needed those documents I wouldn't have gone there."

I didn’t bother knocking in case his highness was deep asleep. I could do with less drama. Taking one last breath I walked in. I let out a sneeze at the strong smell that dominated the house. My eyes took in the vicinity spotting him on the floor. There were bottles of beer all over the place with boxes of pizza making it the right definition of messy. I decided to completely ignore that he was covered in the soft blanket that I usually kept on my side of the bed.

The master bedroom was sparkling clean. Everything was as I had left it. The white sheets were just as spotless. My Hello Kitty pillow was on my side of the bed. My flip-flops were under the bed. It was so vivid and Jay’s scent dominated the room. That heartless bastard. There was debris from the bathroom mirror all over the bathroom floor. Jay was never a violent guy. He had a quick temper and he could pout for hours but breaking things was unlike him.

I rushed to my closet and picked the documents. I knew in my head I wanted to be out of there. A pink box captured my attention. He had not seen it yet. I took in a deep breath putting it back and decided to let fate take its course.

I placed the document and a few makeup supplies in my handbag and walked out. No sooner had I walked out of the door than I collided with a wall, wait not a wall.

“Watch out beautiful.” Despite his stinking breath he managed to pull a sexy hair look with his side bang covering a larger part of his left temple. His gorgeous grey eyes were as lifeless as his posture. He leaned against the wall as he effortlessly held onto a bottle of Chardonnay.

“I am sorry I was just leaving. " I excused myself finding my way around him.

“Not so fast. Not even a hug?” He let out a dry laugh as he staggered towards me. “For old time sake?” I could smell the alcohol in his breath. For a split second I sympathized with him. He was dressed in only a pair of shorts and not even a pair of sandals. I have never seen him so out of character.

“You have been drinking?" I pointed out as he plopped on the couch still holding on to his beer.

“Well, what else is there to do?” His eyes were fixed on the floor. I found myself picking the boxes of pizza that were scattered all over.

“Well I have to go," I said reaching for my bag from the couch.

“Jules wait.” He called and I halted mid-step. I don’t bother turning around. “Is this what you want?”How dare he blame our current situation on me?

“What is that supposed to mean? You are the one who went behind my back with that low life.

“She is called Stephanie.” He corrected pissing me off even more. “Listen, I messed up and I can’t begin to explain how terribly sorry I am. Whatever we had was special we can’t just throw that away.”

Can you believe the nerve of this guy?

“We didn’t have anything. That was just you using me. You took advantage of me. The relationship was one-sided and we both know who was the victim.”

No tears. You can’t give him the satisfaction.

“Don’t say that. I love you Jules. It was mutual from the very beginning.” He was getting on my nerves. How could he lie smoothly. I wished I could believe him. I wanted so much for whatever he was saying to be true but I had seen it all with my own eyes. I had managed to hold it together and I was not going to breakdown in front of him.

“I have to leave” I chocked deciding it was futile to argue with a pathological liar.
