Awkward Encounter

I was about 3 when I first met my best friend Haylie. We met at a baseball game. Our dads were good friends and played baseball together. We both went to their games, our mothers talking to each other. We both stared at each other blankly, eager to talk to each other. “Hi,“she began to say. “Hi..” “What’s your name?” She began to ask. I was nervous, as I only started talking to her right then and there. “C-Caroline, but you can call me Carrie,” I stuttered. “Cool! My name is Haylie! I hope we can be good friends,” she said proudly.

Haylie was really nice. She helped me become more open. I used to be really shy and I'm still shy now, but I think I act more happy and energetic than I acted when I was a kid. I knew her since birth, but of course we never really talked since we were too young. I was 4 and she was 3 when we first talked. I'm a year older than her which is totally fine. We started becoming friends when I moved to xxx. I went to a new church and we started talking a lot. We'd go to Starlucks and hang out every Sunday. She would always invite me to hang out at her place and we would play with those Littlest Pet Shop toys and Shopkins and role-play with them.

Haylie and I would have so many inside jokes as well. "Guys, I'm constipated, meaning that I'm afraid of tight spaces..," I once said in Haylie's car. "Constipated? Haha, you mean Claustrophobic?" Haylie asked, bursting out laughing. It was one of my most embarrasing moments of my life but it's been our inside joke for a while, and one of my favorite memories. However, I wish it would last.
