Stranger's POV
Revenge.
It is the strongest fire that could burn within one's soul. It fuels your decisions and makes you do things you never would have. You want to hurt them for hurting you, make them feel the pain they made you feel and for that you sacrifice your virtues. The choice you make negates everything good that you have done in your life but what's been done is done.
I was once fueled by fire of revenge, I was ready to do whatever I could to hurt him even if meant reviving the creatures that should have been dead. What I didn't know was the fire I carried within me was going to burn everything inside one day.
I see her everyday, practising for hours. Sometimes for the whole night. She is not scared. Strange. Everyone is scared. Maybe it's fate that I keep seeing her. She reminds me so much of who I wanted to be, but I was weak, I couldn't seperate my emotions from me decisions, she can. I have seen the fierceness in her eyes. The emptiness and depth, I have seen it all in her eyes and now it's time for her to see me. It's time for me to be free of my burdens, my guilts and my mistakes.
The minute I make myself visible, her sword is pointed towards me and her other hand grabs the dagger.
"No need for that my child" I say but my voice comes disoriented. I have lost too much of me.
"Who are you and what is your business with me" she asks without once moving the sword. Smart girl. I take a deep meaningless breath before I begin
"Think of me as a friend. You don't know me but I know you. I have seen you practice here everyday and my vision has followed you home every night. You yearn for a power that you don't have but I do."
She interrupts me before I can finish "I don't yearn for any power that doesn't belong to me. I come here to practice my skills."
"I know my child, I know. But I have to choose my successor, someone who will obtain my powers without any burdens but for a scarifice."
She seemed perplexed, as if trying to understand the meaning behind my words but it was not simple. And so I continued
"I am thousand years old. I was once the most powerful being of my kingdom. I knew that with great power comes great responsibility and so I held on to my loved ones and tried to be as just and fair as I could be. That was until I met him, my mate. I immediately thought he will be one of those who I loved and kept close and so I did. What I didn't understand then was that he hated me. He hated me for being a witch, there was no room for love in his heart and it should have been obvious but for some reason it was not. He used me to attack my Kingdom, he mercilessly killed thousands of innocent witches and when he was done and I was there crying tears of blood, he rejected me."
I let out a humorless laugh.
"He thought I would die from the pain of rejection. He thought my love for him was my weakness. But he was wrong. I swore to avenge the people he killed and so I did something bad, something I shouldn't have done. The time has come for me to leave my existence but I am leaving behind a mess that I created."
"What do you want from me ? You want me to avenge you and the people of your kingdom ?"
I smiled at that.
"No my child. As I said I know who you are. You are strong. Very strong. But with my powers, you will be invincible. Tell me my child, will you rid me from this burden, will you carry my fire, will you give me the death I crave?"
I don't know what she saw in my eyes but she said "Yes I will. What do I have to sacrifice?"
I didn't think I would smile again but I did.
"You have to make three sacrifices for the three powers I have acquired over the years. They are dark and powerful. No creature with a pure light soul can bear those powers but you are no light soul, your soul is partially dark just like mine. You have hatred and fierceness that make your souk dark so tell me my child, what will you sacrifice"
I saw an emotion flicker through her eyes before she said "I know what I will sacrifice"
And with that I was ready to die.
"Just remember one thing my child. Don't let your own fire burn you."
"My powers, they are 'Your's Now'."
And with that I gave my all to her, wishing for once I made the right judgment and trusted the good one.
