Chapter 1
My name is Cora Grace. This past year has been sort of a roller coaster for everybody. I want to tell you about one particularly crazy experience I had. It all started one day at school.
I was shocked. School closing!? No way. The way the teachers told us to make sure to take home all our important stuff was a bit nerve racking. I didn’t want to leave school. I didn’t want to leave my friends, Lydia, Karen, Haylee. I especially didn’t want to leave my crush Atlas. I didn’t want to leave. Every teacher told us there would be a very VERY slim chance of school closing. Like, 1 in a million. Guess what. Yup. We got that 1.
I left school that day, quadruple checking my bag to make sure I had everything. I didn’t want to take any chances. I was nervous, but also excited for the weekend. My parents told my siblings and I we would have surprise company. I wondered who it would be. Probably my moms friends family, like usual. My mom has a lot of friends. Usually, one of them comes over around this time of year.
I did not expect the person who came.
I was in my room, scrolling through TikTok when I heard the front door open and my mom greet whoever was there. I jumped up, pulled my hair out of its pony-tail and brushed it, watching my wavy locks fall around my shoulders. I changed out of my sweatpants and into my jeans and my black and white striped crop-top. I looked decent. Boy was I glad I did. I quietly made my way down the stairs. I peeked through a small gap in the banister and saw who was at the door. My mom was talking to Ms. Trust. Atlas’ mom. I glanced to her right, then her left and sure enough Atlas and his brother and sister, Jace and Avryl were there. I was good enough friends with Jace and Avryl, but not Atlas. My eyes widened at the of the Trust’s and I ran back to my room to double check my appearance. I slipped my phone in my back pocket and applied a quick layer of lip balm to cover my chapped lips. My heart was pounding in my chest. My CRUSH’S family would be staying over for a weekend.
Little did I know, it would be longer than just a weekend.
I put on a smile before quietly heading back downstairs.
