The Guts

The doctor’s face turned pale as he listened to my words. He couldn’t comprehend how I could remain so calm in the face of such horror. But deep down, a flicker of unease stirred within me, threatening to consume my rationality.

As the bus continued its journey to Manila, the atmosphere inside grew heavy with an unexplainable tension. The air became stifling, suffocating, as if something sinister lurked just beyond our sight. My classmates were huddled together, trembling with fear and clutching their loved ones tightly. The once cheerful chatter had transformed into anxious whispers.

0

I tried to shake off the growing sense of dread, reminding myself that it was just a figment of my imagination. Yet, the fear refused to dissipate. It clung to me like a cold, clammy hand, refusing to let go. The windows, once clear and transparent, now seemed to possess a malevolent gaze, reflecting the horrors that awaited us.

0

Hours passed in agonizing silence until, suddenly, the bus screeched to a halt. Startled, I jolted awake from my half-slumber, my heart pounding in my chest. Red splatters stained the windows, resembling blood raining down from above. Panic seized the passengers as screams erupted throughout the bus.

0

My gaze was drawn to the scene outside, where a grisly tableau unfolded before me. Two decapitated bodies lay twisted on the hot asphalt, their lifeless eyes staring into oblivion. Blood pooled around them, intermingling with fragments of shattered bones and mangled flesh. The sight was grotesque, a nightmare etched into reality.

0

Terror gripped my soul, threatening to engulf me entirely. I clutched Subin tighter, feeling his trembling body against mine. The pleas of our teacher rang out, commanding us to draw the curtains, to shield our eyes from the horrifying sight. But no curtain could shield us from the horrors etched into our minds.

0

The bus remained motionless, trapped in a macabre purgatory. Fear permeated the air, choking us with its icy grip. The stench of death invaded our nostrils, a sickening reminder of our mortality. Tears streamed down my face as I tried to console Subin, his trembling growing more violent with each passing moment.

0

Amidst the chaos, I couldn’t help but feel an eerie calmness settle within me. It was as if a sinister force had awakened, revealing a darkness that resided within my very being. The knowledge that I had sensed the impending doom gnawed at my sanity, transforming the fear into a twisted sense of understanding.

0

As we were transported to the hospital, the weight of the tragedy pressed upon us. My classmates sobbed, their anguish echoing through the halls. Yet, I remained detached, my emotions numbed by the horrors I had witnessed. Subin looked at me with questioning eyes, his voice trembling as he asked why I wasn’t scared, why I wasn’t traumatized.

0

“It’s a normal thing for me,” I whispered, my voice tinged with an unnatural calmness. “I guess.”

0

But deep inside, a darkness awakened within me, a hunger for the unknown. The events had awakened a dormant power, a connection to the macabre. The angelic guidance I once believed in had twisted into something far more sinister. And as I looked into Subin’s eyes, I realized that the horrors were just beginning.
