Preface
Sprinting at my fastest pace through the cold wet forest. Leaping and ducking over and under tree branches, roots, and bunches of leaves. Don’t look back… Don’t look back… Don’t look… I told myself, practically shouting, almost screaming it in my head. I couldn’t help but look back and I saw him. His cold bright blood-red eyes are the only feature shown as the sun glimmers down on the pitch blackness of him. I whip my head around and before I know it the forest and it’s colors blur from green to a deep dark blue as I look around I snap my mouth shut fast seeing that I’ve appeared in the deepest depths of the ocean. After being stunned for a few seconds I start to swim as fast as I can. My eyes start to burn from the salty water while I can feel myself draining a bit from lack of oxygen. All I see is water but I look further in the distance to spot an outline coming closer but it’s still too far to tell what it is. Almost like it spots us, it seems to keep speeding up. As I think I’m surrounded and have nowhere else to go I hear a voice in my head. I can’t make out what it’s saying but the voice begins fading, so does the water and just as before the deepest depths of the ocean blur into a big clear blue sky with heat radiating from the sun. I feel as if I’m falling, I look down to see that what I’m feeling is what’s happening. I peek behind me to see he’s still there but as I look at him I turn quickly to take a glimpse of my surroundings as it’s kind of a blur because I’m running at full speed but from what I can see it’s a vast desert. I listen to him make noises and hear them escalate like they’re becoming closer, he’s chasing me like a game of cat and mouse. I start to lose energy as I push harder and harder to make more distance between us. I gain more speed from adrenaline and it starts to leave as quickly as it came. The heat and humidity doesn’t help weighing down on me. For what I hope is the last time my surroundings slip away…
