Prologue

Hollywood boulevard, is where we begin our story. A novella of love, superficiality, some may even say glory.

Scrap that this is your average boy meets girl story with two of the most complicated protagonists you'll ever meet. I mean I love them I really do but so they do my head in sometimes. But please don't let my comments stop you.

Go ahead, read along.

***

The wind howls against the double glazed windows. The lights are relaxing, inviting, and warm. And our ‘damsel in distress’ hears the lavatory calling.

Away from the dancing bodies and the polluted air of bleu de Chanel. A door stands alone begging to be opened. She opens the door expecting stalls, sinks, and mirrors.

Not 3 grown men. 2 confined to chairs, the other untidy and stained with their blood. His fists bruised, his hair limps falling over his eyes. This isn’t the bathroom.

His eyes met hers, as he stood straight shaking the blood from his fist. Maia was quick to tap her hands around the room, acting blind.

“Is this the bathroom?” He wiped his mouth before replying.

“No, it’s below the VIP.”

“Thank you so much, have a good night.” Maia turned abruptly tapping her way out of the room, closing the door shut behind herself.

“Oh, sweet baby Jesus.” Maia jogged towards her best friend, Demi. “Sorry but I need to steal my friend she’ll be all yours in a moment.” Demi looked at her shaken best friend.

“What’s wrong Mai?”

“I think I need to go under witness protection. I saw something I shouldn’t have and now he might come for me so I’m going home and never leaving the house ever again. See what happens when I try to mix in with society. It backfires!”

“You sound crazy. I can barely understand a word your saying hun.” Maia looked around her surroundings choosing her words carefully.

“That doesn’t matter if I am in danger. tell my mamma I love her and I love y-.” An arm snaked around Maia’s bicep pulling her away from Demi. “It’s too late.”

“Are you high?” She raised her middle finger as Demi laughed going back to her ‘date’.

Maia closed her eyes, still content on convincing this mystery man she was blind. She heard the door shut and felt her self being pushed against a plush surface.

“I’m next.” She thought to her self.

“What did you see?” His voice was like the low roll of thunder, there was a warmth and richness to it, yet it was smooth and buttery like silk.

“Who? Little old me, I’m visually impaired.” She waved her hands over her sealed eyelids.

“Open your eyes and cut the bullshit.” Maia pried her eyes open at his command. Did she think his stare was going to turn her to stone?

As she blinked adjusting to the room’s lighting Maia was pleasantly surprised by the handsome face nay, gorgeous face opposite her.

His hair was swept back, revealing a scar on his right brow. His eyes were dark and always lingering. They never seemed to focus on one thing. Maia didn’t try to hide that she was enjoying the view, she was scanning his body and she made it very clear, her eyes fixated on his pink full lips more than anything else. Maia had a few infatuations, Snipers, Firemen, Assassins and Mafia leaders. This brooding stranger fit into the final category, maybe tonight wasn’t so bad after all. Or maybe he was a business executive, just as dirty a job but without firearms.

“I didn’t see nothing I didn’t do nothing.” Maia said in a good New Jersey accent if I do say so myself.

“Why are you shaking?”

“I plead the fifth.” He looked at her peculiarly.

“You’re not at court, just answer my question truthfully and I’ll let you go.”

“I see nothing stopping me from getting up and walking to that door.” This mystery man leaned against his desk with his arms crossed looking down at Maia.

“Go ahead.” Maia slowly arose from her seat, cautious of the environment. As she reached the door she looked at him, and he looked back. This was a weird stare contest. They didn’t disclose to one another it was happening, but it was definitely happening.

Maia hid behind the door, opening it as fast as she could. 2 guards stood on the other side with their guns clicked ready to shoot.

He chuckled his dark eyes still following her around the room.

“Smart girl.” Maia nodded appreciating the compliment. He rose his hand to the guards, stand down, and the door shut once again. “Now tell me what you saw.”

“I’m sticking to what I said.“ His patience was beginning to wear.

“Why don’t we introduce ourselves to each other, I’m Liam, Liam Van Der burg.” Dutch, dang it! The chances of him being involved with the Mafia began to slim at an alarming rate.

“Maia Calimeris.” He held out his hand and she shook it her thumb feeling the graze on his knuckles. “You should wrap it you don’t want to catch an infection.”

“Elaborate.” He sat behind his desk with his face resting on his fist.

“I saw you punch two men, or at least it looked like it. Now if you don’t clean that with alcohol you may still have their blood in there. So just clean and bandage it up.”

“Ah, she sees.” Maia smiled a tight smile. “Do it for me.”

“What?”

“Bandage it up for me.” Maia looked at him questionably as he pulled out a first aid kit.

“If you had one this whole time why didn’t you do it yourself?”

“Because I believe in nature and the healing process.” Maia sat on his desk beside him. She placed his hand on her thigh, and he smirked.

“No.”

“I agree, you need to buy me a drink first.” Maia rolled her eyes as she wiped the open wound with the alcohol wipe.

“I don’t drink but I can buy you a water, sparkling water if you’re good.” She blew on his knuckles, drying the moisture from the wipe.

“I’m always good.” She looked at him, back at his knuckles and once again. Back at him. “You caught me at a bad time.” She wrapped his hand and tied a neat knot.

“There, now you can enjoy the healing process without an infection.”

“Thank you, and what you saw tonight-.”

“I went to the bathroom.” Liam nodded placing his hand on the small of her back. “What are you doing?”

“I want my sparkling water I’ve been good.”

***

“I’m not a drinker.” She fiddled with her hands as he turned to her with his dark, brooding eyes.

“Think of it as sparkling grape juice.”

“Sparkling grape juice?” Liam poured a glass of champagne for Maia and then himself.

“Cheers.” She repeated after him and the pair clinked their flutes. Maia sipped on the bubbly and burped after her first sip. She blushed and a small smile played on his lips.

“Happens to the best of us.”

***

“That’s why I think that Rachel and Ross are not together they’re co-parenting.” Over the past two hours, Maia had two and a half flutes of champagne and she was rather tipsy. She was the lightest lightweight known to man.

Maia was seated on Liam’s lap; she learned that he practically owned half of Downtown Los Angeles. They had moved away from the bar to the VIP lounge with four of Liam’s friends they were just a few years older than her all in their twenties, they all seemed friendly, maybe a little too friendly. She wondered if they thought she was an escort.

Liam handed Maia a glass filled with a clear substance. She looked at the drink suspiciously.

“It’s water.” She wasn’t convinced. He drank some of the ‘water’ exaggerating his gulp. “Ah, refreshing.” She forced a tight smile, not appreciating the sarcasm. Maia quickly downed the water; she could feel her lightly clouded head clearing up.

“Let’s go.” She nodded standing up. Once again Liam placed his hand on the small of her back and led her to his car.

“Ladies first.”

“Why, thank you.” The toxins were drained out her body, but Maia still felt lose. An unusual feeling for her. He entered after her.

“You don’t talk much.”

“Actions are larger than words.” She wondered what he meant by that. Before she could fully process the thought, she felt his soft lips against hers.

“Action?” He nodded and she smiled against his lips.

He pulled her onto his lap, having her straddle him, whilst keeping their lips in a sultry kiss, as he gripped her hips with one hand, and explored her with the other. Her fingers found themselves tangled in his now tousled locks.

He rolled her hips against his erection, Maia gasped as she felt it against her red ruched off the shoulder body-con dress.

The pair had reached Liam’s Condo up in the hills. Bachelor pad, if you will. Liam had Maia against a wall, her heart pounding... amongst other things. His hand traveled down the length of her body. He lifted his head from her neck, leaving behind several bruises. His lips met hers, drowning out her gentle moans.

“Liam.” A haze came over Maia as she pulled back. He grunted in response.

“I haven’t exactly had sex before.” He looked at her amused, which quickly changed as he realized, she was serious.

“You’re a virgin?” She nodded. “Are you sure?” She looked at him confused. Who lies about being a virgin?

“I’m pretty sure.”

“Do you want me to stop?” She shook her head and a smirk played on his lip. She was wondering if she’d regret this. Depended on him.

Liam laid Maia against the bed, standing bare in front of her. Her eyes were fixated on his lower half as he slid his hands beneath her dress feeling her curves. His teeth pulled down the zip of her dress exposing her. Liam sat back allured by her body.

“What?” He shook his head.

“Nothing.” He kissed the length of her abdomen, kneading her breasts. A gasp left Maia’s lip as she felt Liam’s tongue circulate her areola. He pinched her aroused buds. As his lips once again met hers.

Liam pulled Maia’s lace panties. He pulled her legs around his neck, licking her dripping mound. Moans escaped Maia's lips as his tongue circulated her clit. He couldn’t help himself and teased Maia with the head of his cock. The gentle hums escaping from Maia’s lip became harsher.

“This might hurt, but it’ll get better… I promise.” Maia seemed hesitant.

“Okay.” He pushed himself inside. She winced as he continued to push himself into her. She felt an odd sensation like she was being stretched, internally. She breathed out as he stilled.

“Are you feeling okay?” He breathed in her ear.

“Yeah, yeah I’m fine.” He began to move inside her as she tightly pressed her lips together. For someone who was the definition of menacing he was surprisingly gentle, making sure Maia wasn’t in great pain.

As the time passed on the pain turned to pleasure, so much so that Maia flipped the pair over, straddling Liam, his hands were quick to grip her rolling hips, she held back her moans to hear his grunts. Their eyes rolled at the back of their heads.

“Cum.” Maia looked at him and he stared back.

“What?”

“Cum. For. Me.” Just as he finished the sentence Maia came undone.

“Liam!” She moaned out as she fell onto his chest. Liam pumped into Maia a few more times grunting her name as he reached his climax.

Maia rolled off Liam, breathless. He slipped his arm under her back, pulling her to his chest. She looked at him through her long lush eyelashes, confused. Maia had never been sent so many mixed signals in one day, it made sense why she was so confused.

“Are you sure you weren’t a virgin.” Liam’s gazed at Maia, calming his heart rate.

“Why would I lie that I’m not?” He chuckled looking up at his ceiling.

“No reason.” Maia sat up realizing oddly, Liam was complimenting her.

“I’m good aren’t I?” He shrugged.

“For a former virgin.” She laughed revealing her dimples.

“No, I’m good, like really good.”

“Don’t get cocky.”

“A little too late for that.” Liam hovered over Maia, wrapping his hand around her neck. His dark eyes penetrating into the depths of her soul.

“You sure?” She fell silent and a smug look appeared on his face. “I’ll take that as a yes.” She nodded conservatively. He nudged himself into her once again. Maia gripped the sheets, leaving a smirk on his face. The Male species and smirks my goodness.

***

Maia winced as she slipped out of Liam’s grip. She tried to stand straight but the pounding ache between her legs brought great pain.

She found her dress and slipped it on. She tapped the floor blindly looking for her panties, she peaked on the bed seeing it under Liam, there went her lingerie. She crawled towards the door freezing as she heard him shuffle.

"Off so soon?"

Adrienne: The plot was great. Different from most books I've read. The story was short and to the point. There was a bit of repetitive lines about Ryder looking good, but outside of that was a great read.
