life
Once upon a time, there was a young girl.
She was born to an average family and was never expected to do anything proper with her life. From a young age, the girl had no issues connecting with her peers, in fact, she was the only member of her family who could form a meaningful connection with any stranger.
As she grew older, she became more and more critical of herself, often seeing herself as inferior to others even as they told her how much better than them she was. Most nights she would cry herself to sleep, unbeknownst to those around her who thought she was happy as can be.
Once she became a teenager, the innocent little girl she once was began fading away into nothingness and all that was left was a shell of who she used to be. At first, she blamed herself, thinking that this was some sort of punishment, as if simply existing wasn’t bad enough. She soon realised that it was those around her who turned her into the heartless monster she now was. If only they had been less wrapped up in themselves, they would have noticed that since she was 6, she had been feeling inadequate, unloved and overlooked and that it was simply much too late for anyone to do anything. After all, once she hit 16 the damage had already been cemented. All the criticism she received daily from her supposed family and friends may have seemed fair to the outside world, but she knew, she knew that if it hadn’t been for those same peoples’ ignorance towards everything she had kept pent up over the years, it wouldn’t have happened.
What everyone assumed to be a golden girl crashing and burning was really just a broken little girl who had finally had enough of being treated like she didn’t exist and decided to recreate herself. The same girl who the world now sees as callous and uncaring is really so much more than anyone will ever know. And now, a month before her 18th birthday, she’s finally realised that no matter who she is, she will never be enough. Not for herself, her family, or the world. She’s ready to become the person who everyone accuses her of being anyways. If she really wanted to get out of her small town and move on from everything, she had to become focused and tough and hardworking, because if she didn’t? She would have no way out of the life she never wanted in the first place.
Gone is she, the young girl with a definitive name, now all that exists is her purpose.
