Prolouge

It was terrible. The Prom. The tall kid with slicked black hair, who was her date, had crushed her heart. Everything turned that day.

Cynthia ran down the wooden steps towards the bay. She couldn't stand to be at the Prom any longer. The cold ocean breeze was whipping her dark brown hair in every direction. Its icy touch froze the tears to her face.

As she raced down every step, her flowing white dress spun. The pearl necklace her Grandma gave her for her 15th birthday kept on hitting her in the chin. But she wasn't going to stop.

She could see the dock now. Casting out to the small bay by the High School. Cynthia kept on running until she finally slowed at the dock to catch her breath.

Tears were still streaming down her face as she took deep breaths to comfort herself. She fell to the ground, sobbing, into her beautiful white dress.

Everything around her seemed to quiet as she released her sadness and anger. Cynthia finally decided to drag herself over to the edge of the water.

She peered over the edge of the dock and looked at her reflection.

Her mascara was running down the sides of her cheeks. Her lipstick was smeared. Her blue eyes were heavy with weariness. She looked beaten.

Cynthia stepped back and took a deep breath. Then anger took over her as she grabbed the pearl necklace around her neck and yanked. It broke with a shuddering clang, and she threw it off to the side of the dock, where green grass grew.

Cynthia cried some more before finally getting to her feet. The tight white high-heels she was wearing were rubbing her feet dry. She took them off and paced around the edge of the dock. Tears still flowed from her blue eyes, she desperately shut them.

She looked up at the sky sprinkled with shining stars and sighed.

The sky seamed to turn. The stars seemed to rotate. But as soon as she realized what was happening, it was too late.

Her dress flew out in front of her as her head tilted back. She reached her arms up in attempt to save herself but she continued to fall.

The ice cold water made her feel numb and limp. All those years on the swim team and she couldn't even save herself. It seemed as if the water had stolen all her memories. Her thoughts.

Everything.

Water engulfed her as she lay limp in the deep blue. Cynthia weakly managed to open her eyes and saw blue darkness surrounding her.

She had never thought that it would come to this. That she would give up this easily.

She closed her eyes.

Coldness seemed to fasten its grip more tightly on her fragile body. Her brown hair gently brushed agaist her cheeks as she fell further.

Then, a flash of red crossed her vision.

I'm dying!
