Chapter 1
Alexander's P.O.V
"No mother! Were not having this conversation again. I've told you time and again, I'm not going to marry Beverly." I almost shouted as I tried to walk away.
"Don't walk out on me Alex! You and Beverly have been close since I could remember. You can't deny the connection." She said in an authoritative voice.
"Connection?" I scoffed knowing how Beverly was.Sure she had been my girlfriend for a while, but we had dropped the titles after I'd left for further studies in Italy.
After getting back three years ago,we met up regularly for casual hookups but it was nothing past that for me.
Knowing Beverly well enough, she was putting this stupid ideas in my mothers head. She was the typical spoilt girl that was used to getting her way because of her looks and if that didn't work her father's wealth would.
She was any mans dream when it came appearances and her experience in the bedroom, but past that I personally found her shallow. If we were to get married, she'd be the stay at home trophy wife that expected to be flown to Beverly Hills to shop for a new bag that just came out or just host parties in the backyard.
That was definitely not what I was settling for-heck!I didn't even have a plan to settle any time soon,if ever- and I had made it perfectly clear that what we had was purely 'no strings attached.'
"Alex! This is not just about you!We have a business to think about too and you know we need to keep ties with the Robertson's." She shouted referring to Beverly's family.
"You,dad and Adrian have a business to think about!I run my own company and as far as I'm concerned, the Robertson's have nothing to do with it." I countered.
"This is family Alex!" She fumed.
"Exactly! My family should let me find a girl that I actually love not force me into an arranged marriage for business." I almost laughed at the idea of love.
This conversation was wearing me out already.
"Love? You think people in our social circles get married out of love?" She almost hissed.
"That explains a lot." I scoffed gulping down the brown liquid from my glass.
"Listen Alex,I know you think you're grown enough just coz you run your own company, but I'm your mother.I know what's best for you." She said calmly.
I knew this trick, she always won when she used that tone, but not today.
"No you don't,you only care about what's best for your company. I don't even know why I thought coming here was a good idea." I said setting my glass aside, ready to leave.
"That company is family business! That company is the reason you grew up in the best neighborhood and went to the best schools. That company is the reason you have everything you do right now." She sounded angry.
"And I thank you and dad for everything, but I'm not marrying Beverly." I said picking up my jacket and car keys.
"I'll take my leave now."I kissed her cheek and walked out before she had a chance to say anything else.
Even though my mother and I were close,I hated situations like this where she tried to control everything.Same thing had happened when I started a company of my own.She wanted me to drop that and work in dads company, but I had always wanted to be my own boss.Just like with the company, she wasn't getting her way with this.
The thing is,all the girls I'd been with were always after something. Some enjoyed the trips in a private jet, others the shopping, some the free passes to events or VIP access, for the mentions on tabloids and some just to brag about it.It was always material and I was not attached to any of them either-not even Beverly,my relations were driven by desire and lust.
I know I had told my mother I'd only get married to a girl I loved, but that was only in the spur of the moment.
Love wasn't in my books and I had never given marriage a thought.
But now I had to figure out how I would ease her obsession for me to marry Beverly.Making up my mind fast,I decided to head over to the strip club.My best mate-Erick and I went there every Saturday to check on business since it was one of our investments and also unwind for the weekend.
As expected,Erick was already in the VIP area eyeing one of the stripers as she made her seductive moves. From the drinks on the table,I could tell he'd been here a while. As soon as he noticed me approach he got up,receiving me.
"Lex...I thought you were sitting this weekend out." He said as we fist bumped.
"I thought I was too,but I had to get away from my mum." I said taking a seat and serving myself a drink.
"What's she up in your case about this time?" He asked as we cheered our drinks and drunk down.
"Beverly and marriage." I said curtly.
"Woah,woah..Wait....Marriage?She wants you to marry Beverly?" He had a shocked expression on his face.
"Yes....for the family business and for some reason she thinks Beverly and I have some sort of connection" I scoffed sarcastically.
"But you have your own business to think about...Isn't Adrian taking over your family's business anyway?" He looked rather concerned, maybe because he knew me too well.
"Of course he is,but it's not like he could take Beverly as a second wife." I said sarcastically.
My elder brother Adrian was madly in love with his wife Ashley.Their marriage was rather smooth since Ashley's family was well off, which meant my mother didn't oppose much. The two families even got into business soon after, which meant mummy dear was happy.
"So you're going to marry her?" Erick asked looking panicked.
"What? No way!But I have to think of something that will make my mother back down from the whole issue."
"You'd need a good excuse to talk her out of this one, especially since you know Beverly will keep pushing this idea."
"I don't even want to think about that right now." I gulped down my third glass earning me a worried look from Erick.
"Yeah, sure." He said pouring more drinks.
"Hey man,look...It's that masquerade girl you like."He pointed to the stage turning my attention to the lady.
There she was,the highlight of my weekends lately.Unlike most of the stripers in the club, this one always had a masquerade on,like she wanted to remain anonymous. The manager had informed me that she'd requested to have it on during her performances which I didn't object.
She always had the audience in awe-me included- as she swung seductively on the pole.
I wish I was that pole....
"I want her." I said under my breath.
I had seen her dance here for a couple of weekends now and something about her made her more interesting to watch.Maybe it was the way her masquerade held some mystery, but every time she got on stage I had a hard time in my pants...No pun intended.
Weird part is she always left after her performances on stage, she never stuck around for the private dances or any of that like most of the others did,but I needed to have her-for tonight atleast.I had never bothered to ask about who she really was but all that mattered was that she was of legal age.
But damn! The way she swung her hips on that stage should have been illegal.
