Chapter 1 - A new Beginning

“Harley! Come on get up” My mom shouted on top of her voice as she dropped a jug on the bedside. I didn't know if it was the countless nightmares or the chilling atmosphere that made me feel lazy that morning. The way my mom was wriggling me didn't make me feel any better.

"Sweetie it’s your first day,you have to get up" I lifted the duvet covering my body slowly as I rolled my eyes. My mom who looked stressed as usual, dropped a tumbler on the bedside and filled it with water. Huh yes she understands me. "Get up!" She exclaimed and lashed my buttocks. "Mom?" I caressed the spot even though it didn't hurt at all.

Drinking the glass of water all at once, I saw my mom walking in the passage in an orange robe probably looking for something.

I was happy to have made it to the bathroom, with the way I was feeling dizzy. I rolled my eyes once again, when I saw myself in the mirror. "Let's get over this." I said to myself as I brushed my teeth.

Ten minutes later, I was descending unto the stairs looking actually better than the way I woke up. I actually felt better after the hot bath, it made me feel good. Even my school uniform, although I didn't feel like I had the right to wear the uniform of such a prestigious school.

On my way to the dining table, I sighted a picture. Not just a normal picture, a picture of a complete family. I was in the middle right beside my brother, everyone beaming with joy. I closed my eyes in anguish and let the tears flow freely on my face.

"Seriously Harley, you will make me cry" I didn't notice it was my mom until I turned back. And there was the awkward silence. I just walked away to the dining to eat my breakfast.

The aroma of the food wasn't enough to make me eat that morning. I noticed that those tears were still falling, my blue shirt was kind of soaked. Huh pizza. The sight of the food brought a faint smile to my face even though I wasn't happy.

To be honest, I didn't want to eat anything, because that thought of my father and brother made me feel sick. It's been thirteen years, that I actually sighted my brother and my father. Well, according to my mother it is.

Remember when I told you, I wasn't going to eat, just forget that because before I knew it my mom had already shoved two slices of pizza into my mouth. "Mom?" She didn't say anything, she just sipped a little amount of tea and walked out of the house. Seriously? She didn't finish her coffee and she is forcing me to eat? I didn't even know what made me smell the coffee she left behind. "Ugh why can't my mom eat pizza instead." I said as I dropped the dishes into the sink in the kitchen and went to meet my mom who was already on the last floor.

"Darling what were you doing in there?" She said and took the car keys from her bag. She gave me a weird look. "What?" I said raising an eyebrow in confusion.

"Your school bag darling" She poke me at my shoulder. Silly me. I rushed back to the building that is half the height of a skyscraper. I expected to see all my neighbors to also be going to their various schools, and their various workplaces. But that day, it was as quiet as a desert. Weird.

"Looking for this?" I heard a familiar voice, that voice used to make my heart beat a million miles. "Thanks" I collected my bag from him and just just continued to stare. "You didn't even lock the door to your house." He said when I attempted to walk away.

I hit my forehead with my palms in disappointment. I locked the door to my house as soon as I got there and sighted Kyle again. "What school are you going to again?" Kyle gazed at me patiently waiting for an answer. "You are also going to Heritage high?" I answered his question with a question.

"Yeah, my dad's cousin is helping with the fees, you?" He looked happy. Oh Kyle! My not so good friend.

"What are you talking to that girl about" A certain voice crept out. Him, he is the reason why Kyle is my not so good friend. His presence made my blood boil.

Kyle is nothing like his dad, well except for the face. I mean the resemblance was way too much. The green eyes, the blonde hair, it was all the same, except for the virtues.

"I'm unto you and your mom, better be careful" I ran off to my mom as soon as he said that. Kyle used to be my boyfriend. Mr. Benson wasn't the reason why I broke up with Kyle, it was just that I didn't feel the same anymore. Everytime I see him, it gets really awkward. And yes, I see him everyday.

The fifteen minutes drive made me to school made me to sweat, even though the air con was switched on. High school here I come.
