Chapter 1
Raina
“Yes I’m sure. Besides I really don’t need him worrying about me and questioning me all day.”
“You can’t blame him. You just got out of the hospital Raina and you’re not even fully healed; it’s natural for us to worry about you, especially since we’re your family.” He wasn’t wrong. In retrospect of everything, it was actually nice not being in the hospital anymore, despite having an argument with both doctors and nurses about staying until I was fully healed from the damage I had taken a while back.
“Does he know I’m here?” John shook his head, his ears twitching slighting from the movement. One thing I never understood about him was the glasses he wore. John had perfect eyesight yet he wore glasses….it made me wonder if it was just for appearances.
“Although I have every mind to tell him.” Was he serious?
“Please, Uncle John, don’t. I already know he’s stressed and blaming himself for what happened, I really don’t need him to be worrying about me just breathing. Besides, I plan on taking it easy like I'm suppose to and if for any reason I don't feel good, I'll go to the nurses or go home. Okay? ” He eyed me and seemed to be thinking it over. I actually thought I was going to have to beg him.
“Fine, but on one condition.” I groaned but whatever the condition was, it couldn’t be that bad, right?
“Name it.”
“The moment I hear you didn’t do what you promise, I’m keeping you at home until I deem you are completely fit to attend school,” She could deal with that, “And, you will have someone with you when you need it.”
“You can’t be serious?!” He gave me a dull look and crossed his arms over his chest.
“I’m dead serious Rain. I don’t want you doing something that’s going to push you more than need be at the moment. It’s either this, or you go home now. The choice is yours.” Fucken hell he drove a hard bargain. I sighed, on the brightside of this, I wouldn’t have my brother worrying about me until I ran into him here and I also wouldn’t be in bed either. Downside of this, I would still have a watchdog. How the pros outweighed the cons.
“Fine, I’ll agree to your conditions.” He nodded and grabbed my papers from his desk as I stood up from my seat.
“I am serious though, one word and you are staying home, understand?” I nodded and john gave me my papers, “Good, now get going, I don’t want you to be late.” Giving him a quick hug, I smiled and got the hell out of the principal’s office, hopefully the day wouldn’t be that bad.
Only an hour into school and two classes done, I was feeling good….or I would of been good if it wasn’t for the fact that I had gotten myself turned around in this damned school. I wasn’t even sure how it was even possible. Groaning, I turned back to the map in my hand. Where the fuck was this damn science class anyway?
“B12 is on the second floor.” I squeaked and turned around to see a guy standing behind me with his head tilted to the side slightly.
“Don’t…fucking do that!” The amusement on this guy's face was irritating to say the least.
"Do what?" Was this guy serious? Maybe he was blind, since he was wearing a blindfold or whatever it was over his eyes? But that was doubtful since he didn't have a cane and he never bumped into me.
"Sneaking up on people. Are you trying to get hit?" He seemed to think it over before slightly shrugging.
"Not really but from the way you acted I doubt I have anything to worry about." I opened my mouth before closing it. I really didn't have time for this, I just wanted to find this class and get on with my day.
"Whatever. What was that you said about class b12?" He raised a brow that seemed to vanish in his dark hair and upon closer inspection, it was just about as long as I had it, except the difference being mine was in a messy bun and his was in a braid.
"It's on the second floor."
"You're kidding? There's a second floor?!" Someone kill me now.
"Come on stormcloud, I'll show you the way." I blinked a few times and ran to catch up to his retreating back. What was wrong with this guy?
Needless to say that strange guy had made good on his word and showed me to the right class but what he failed to mention was that he was in my class. I sighed as the teacher kept rambling on about protons and neutrons. You would think I would be excited to be back but honestly I had too much on my mind to even consider it. Sure I was glad to be anywhere but at home but at the same time I was concerned how my brother was going to react once he seen me. For one, I knew how he was and he was way over protective and worried a lot about me. What was the concerning part about all this, I didn’t want him to blame himself for me being hospitalized. It was my fault in the first place. I sighed again.
“You alright, stormcloud?” I jumped slightly in my seat before looking over at mystery boy.
“Alright, why do you keep calling me that? I do have a name you know.” He shrugged.
“It seems to suit you.” I tilted my head and stared at him. I wasn’t sure what was worse, trying to figure out some guy I don’t know or letting him give me a nickname, “Is something wrong?”
“You barely know me and yet you’re giving me a pet name. Hell, I don’t even know your name.” He literally laughed at me and I lightly growled in irritation. What was up with this guy?
“I’m sorry.” He chuckled before smiling. Damn, his laugh and smile were amazing, “I’m Leon.”
“Raina.”
“I prefer stormcloud.” This asshole… I shook my head as the bell rang, “see ya later stormcloud.” I watched as Leon walked out the door. Well that was interesting in the least. Sighing, I gathered my stuff and headed out to lunch.
If there was one thing I didn’t miss about school, it was the crowded hallways at lunch time. I groaned, why did the cafeteria dome have to seem so small….
“I said let him go!” I stopped in my tracks and groaned. I knew that voice but I prayed I was wrong. Pushing through the crowd, I sighed as I got to the front of the group. No wonder there were more people hanging around than usual, but I wasn’t wrong. The voice I heard was definitely my brother and upon looking at the situation, I can clearly see why. He stood with three other guys, one smaller than the others and it seemed like he was being held by one of the other guys. Light brown hair, sort of a slim build and a purple bracelet on his left wrist, he had to be the boyfriend my aunt had talked about but he seemed…human, not that I had a problem with that.
“Come on Nate, just three small words and I’ll let him go.” One of the guys said. I narrowed my eyes slightly and took a small sniff. Yep, he was a pussycat. I sighed and I headed up next to my brother. I really wish this wasn’t how our first reunion was going to be but…..I wasn’t going to stand by and watch my brother get owned by a pussy.
“Sorry to interrupt but I’m going to ask this nicely, let my future brother in law go.” This guy actually had the audacity to laugh at me.
“Now you have a human fighting your battles.” I felt my eye twitch.
“Raina-“ I held up my hand, shutting Nate up. One thing my brother knew about me was the hand sign, once that baby went up, someone was about to get taught a lesson.
“One, don’t assume who a person is, you’ll be surprised. Two,” catching everyone by surprise, I pulled my brother’s boyfriend out of idiot number 2 arms and right into my brothers, “ this is ours and we’ll be taking him back.”
“You little bitch!” my head snapped sideways and everyone’s gasp echoed around the dorm.
“Oh shit.” Nate whispered.
“See, you’re just a path-“he went flying to the ground and his friend jumped back. I took two steps towards him as he glanced up and his eyes widened, “W-what are you.” I rolled my eyes.
“I told you to not assume but you thought I was human, not to mention I called Nate my brother. Honestly, for a Neko you're not the brightest.” He looked down to the item in my hand and got up, clearly madder than before.
“You hit me with a book!”
“And you hit with your hand.” He looked ready to hit me again but before he could, a hand shot out from beside me and lifted him off the ground, making his eyes bug out from fear. Looking over next to me, well more like up, I sighed. Was Leon stalking me or was this just a coincidence that he was here.
“Get lost and don’t let me see you around them again. Got it?” the guy nodded and the second he was released, him and his friend took off. I shook my head before almost falling forward. I looked over my shoulder to see Nate’s fluffy black ear as his head rested on my shoulder. I smiled lightly and gently patted his arms that were wrapped firmly around my stomach.
“It’s okay big bro. I’m here.” As much as I wanted to let out my ears and tail to truly comfort him, I wasn’t ready for that. His arms tightened before he released me and I turned around and gave him a small smile.
“I’m glad you’re here.”
“Please, you couldn’t get rid of me even if you tried.” He laughed and lightly pulled the boy in front of him.
“Sis, this is Lucis, my boyfriend.” I smiled and hugged the guy.
“You mean my brother in law.”
“U-uh no… I-“
“Shoosh, you cutie. You're also adorable. The pictures I’ve seen don’t do you any justice.” Lucis blushed and seemed embarrassed making me giggle. I then remembered who was also here and raised a brow at him.
“What?”
“Are you stalking me or something?”
“No….I’m here because you need to be watched.” I narrowed my eyes.
“What do you mean by that?” I knew I wasn’t going to like the answer but I had to ask. Either it was from my tone or it was the suspicious look on my face but Leon’s lips slightly twitched.
“Your uncle authorized it.” I groaned out loud. Of course he did.
“Uh, what’s going on? What did John authorize?” I sighed and looked at Nate.
“Uncle John and I made an agreement that I would only be allowed to attend school if I didn’t push myself and that I would have someone with me if I needed it but….I guess he doesn’t trust me to keep my word.”
“Well, I can see his point.” I gaped at my brother. Was he serious? “And if I’m being honest, I think Leon is the perfect person for the job.”
“And how do you figure?”
“Rain, let’s be honest, you can be a big pain in the ass every now and then. Not to mention you are a handful when you’re trying to push yourself which is often so, yeah. I think Leon will be able to handle your ass.” I honestly can’t believe my brother wasn’t on my side. But I guess I could see his point. I sighed.
“Fine.” I looked over at Leon and he raised a brow, “I won’t be making this easy on you.” I turned and walked off but not before catching his chuckle. I wasn’t sure what it was, but something told me this was going to be an interesting school year.
