Chapter 1
Late. I can’t believe I’m late again! My daddy is going to kill me. Way to go Dells. The most powerful in my tribe, and I am late. Flying through the halls of compound, I use my reflexes to avoid knocking people over like bowling pins. I should’ve been on the training grounds 15 minutes ago! I see my dad and he is not happy.
“Hi daddy” I say to him, grinning. He, of course, is unenthused. “I’m so sorry I’m late. There ain’t no excuse. It’ll never happen again.”
He grunts in response, “Isn’t that what you said yesterday darlin’?”
I wink back as we continue towards the new recruits on the training grounds waiting for us. As the only daughter of the chieftain, training the new recruits is part of my duty. “Listen up! It’s time to get started!”
“Sure thing sweet cheeks”
I hear my dad growl but I look at him and shake my head. Slowly, I let my dominance leak out. I feel my eyes change bright red as I look around. “I’m sure I misheard you sugar, why don’t you speak up?” I let some fang show to complete the look. Shane gets pushed to the front of the group. Figures he’s new here. Everyone else knows about my temper. I can smell that he regrets it already so I decide to take it easy on him just this once, but I’ll mess with him a bit first. I let the full weight of my alpha dominance come forward and I hear him whimper. I take a step closer to Shane. “Shane darlin’?” Another step.
“Yes ma’am?”
Another step. “Well ain’t ya gonna speak up now?” I grin. Silence. “Well, seein’ as though Shane here seems to be a bit tongue tied why don’t we get started huh?” I reign my dominance completely back in so that nobody is uncomfortable. It’s much better for me to look and smell harmless. The group begins to break off into partners for sparring, leaving Shane alone. It is so not his lucky day. “Well Shane that just leaves me huh? Try to give me at least a bit of a workout sugar”, I say as I take my shirt off to spar with him. Letting my wolf senses open up, I’m ready. Everything is much clearer this way and I can predict his moves much easier. Taunting him has made him a bit angry I smell but impressively enough it doesn’t appear to affect his focus. This might be fun
After training the new recruits, I head to my room to shower. Stepping in front of the mirror I see my hair’s a mess and I hear my mama’s voice
“Adellade, pretty little girls keep their hair nice and neat.” Boy would she be disappointed in the current state of my birds nest. I’d pulled my large Afro back into a ponytail for sparring and pieces had clearly decided to go their own way as they escaped. With my Afro and chocolate skin, my eyes always seem out of place being pale blue with some green here and there. I take the entrance in the back of my closet down to the tunnel system that leads to my personal underground practice room and start the sound system. After picking my favorite playlist, I start my actual training for the day. Bringing myself into focus, I get ready for a hard few hours.
