Chapter 1

My name is Laia and I am a she-wolf, not that I wanted to be as my parents died when I was 8 and my brother is my only living relative. They died because of this wolf business, I wouldn’t say I like their lifestyle and I never want to be part of that world.

I wasn’t meant to be here, I wasn’t meant to be born as a she-wolf and I certainly didn’t want to have a mate.

I work at a normal 9-5 job where I am content with my life and I regularly visit my adopted parents.

My brother on the other hand loved being a wolf and was the Alpha of his pack. Alpha Kyle of the Silver Knight pack. He had accepted his role fully and was busy in his life.

My house feels different today, as if someone was inside but only one other person had the key to this house and he could be trusted with my life.

I walked and hugged him as he was my only blood relative left.

I could hear a growl when I hugged but I decided to ignore and talk to Kyle.

He smiled “I want to invite you to my mating ceremony as I have found my mate”.

I shuddered at the thought of being in the presence of other wolves, I had known some of them, and although they treated me like a sister I didn’t want to go.

“I can’t go, I don’t want to be involved in any way,” I said

“Fine, I won’t force you but at least meet my mate she wants to see you” Kyle persuaded.

“Ok sure, where is she?” I looked in the direction he was looking at.

The most beautiful goddess in the world was standing behind the door, I understood where the growl came from. “Ariana, Laia doesn’t feel like going to our mating ceremony” Kyle murmured.

“But she is your only blood relative left, you wouldn’t deny your presence on the one significant day of your brother’s life” Ariana said commandingly.

“Nice to meet you, I will go to your mating ceremony rest assured” I spoke quietly.

“Good, now that’s settled. Let’s see your clothes” Ariana exclaimed.

I took her to my room.

She was horrified at my clothes, why are they so dark and loose?

“That’s how I like them” I was tired and not in the mood to discuss my clothes. “We have to go shopping” Ariana excitedly shouted.

“Ok, we will go tomorrow” I wanted to sleep and was dreading tomorrow already.

I waved bye to both of them.

I tried to sleep but felt unsettled about attending the ceremony. I kept thinking of excuses to come up with on the day but finally gave up. It was just one day of Kyle’s life that I couldn’t miss out on. Everything will be fine and all your brothers in the pack will protect you so you can return to your normal life I thought to myself and drifted off to sleep.

I got up early in the morning to prepare for shopping.

Knock, knock, I ran to open the door. I felt uneasy, who was here so early in the morning? Nothing could be seen through the hole, so I opened the door to see Ariana shouting “surprise”.

" I didn’t expect you so early” I replied. “I know, I thought we could spend some time together alone”

" I want to know more about you and your brother as you know he won’t talk” I blinked and I remained speechless. This woman was too smart. “I brought some breakfast for us also” TOO TOO smart.

I ate the food hungrily, A chocolate croissant and latte were delicious. I realized that Ariana was very skinny, stylish, and had the latest trendy clothes. “So do you have anyone in your life?“Ariana asked.

“NO, I don’t think anyone is meant to be in my life” I replied curtly

“What happened? you said no initially to the mating ceremony also” Ariana asked.

“Listen I appreciate you trying so hard, but you don’t have to, some people are just not meant to be part of a world and you just have to accept it. I don’t want to talk about this anymore” I replied.

why does she keep asking questions? so many questions. I wish I hadn’t opened the door.

“Don’t worry. I won’t ask anymore” Ariana frowned and made a face. The woman who was gorgeous yesterday was looking ugly today.

I got ready to go shopping and closed the door of the house.

" I will wait in the car,” Ariana said, she opened the blue Range Rover and sat inside. I looked at my old black Ford and was jealous.

The car ride to the mall was quiet. Ariana was a careless driver and was constantly speeding. After finally arriving at the mall, I smelled something delicious, it was coming from a bakery.

But my tummy is full, what is so delicious? I thought to myself.

Ariana dragged me to a high-end store, where there were short tight dresses and long tight dresses. I looked at the long section, Ariana picked out a couple of dresses and dragged me to the changing room. The dress was OTT, Ariana also didn’t like the dress, it had big shoulders and made me look funny.

" Can you show me what you are wearing for tomorrow? so I can get an idea” Ariana showed her dress, which was made by Dior in pastel blue. It looked gorgeous and was classy.

A light lilac dress was poking out from the pile, ” I will try this” I pulled it out and went to try it on. It fit like a glove and Ariana looked happy too.

“We need to pick out shoes and bags too, I saw you didn’t have them yesterday,” Ariana said. This woman is a scanner, I thought to myself, this is going to take ages. I browsed the store some more to see white heels and a lilac bag that would suit the dress. I tried them on and they also fit. “Ok outfit for tomorrow is done, can you drop me home now?” Ariana looked sad.” yes sure , I will drop you off “.

“It’s just I am really tired from work and I have some things at home I have to do” I explained.

After reaching home, Ariana said,” I hope tomorrow goes well”.

“Of course it will” I replied, there was a look of sadness on her face again. “Kyle told me about your parents and how they died, my parents also died when I was young and I only have a sister, I want us all to be a family”

I listened and looked into Ariana’s eyes. She was being truthful, this was the benefit of being a she-wolf, the ability to tell the truth from lies.
