Chapter 1
She was sick of it. There was no escape from the torture. There is one way.
"No!" Valkyrie shouted at the empty room. Darquesse wouldn't even let her have that. She would just take over.
The responsibility weighed heavily on Valkyrie. She thought no human being should have to go through what she was going through.
Her very being tearing itself apart in two directions.
Valkyrie and Darquesse.
You'd be happy you know. You like it when I'm out. Like the power. We're not different people Valkyrie. Understand that, except it. I'm you, you're me. You are ME.
"Leave me alone!" Screamed Valkyrie as she threw a pillow across the room. She lay back and panted. 'I have to think of something else.' She thought. Those same thoughts then landed on Stephanie, the enigma, the rogue reflection, the only reflection ever to gain, life. The one who tried to kill her.
"It's an idea..."
She walked around in normal clothes instead of her black protected ones. She walked, seemingly, aimlessly. Or that’s wat it looked like to the world. A teenage girl, with dark hair wearing a pair of jeans and a black t-shirt that had a blue butterfly on it, looking through the hardware store. ‘Perhaps she needs some screws? Maybe a light bulb?’ they thought. But Valkyrie’s mind was thinking much darker thoughts. Thoughts like ‘Will I be able to keep Her under control until I get home?’ Or sometimes, and she hated this, ‘What would it be like if everyone here was covered in their own blood?’ She knew that was Darquesse’s influence.
Finally she found what she was looking for. Rope. Long rope, thick rope, short rope, thin rope. She picked up a plain, simple, generic piece of rope. Brown, ropey, everything one would look for in a piece of rope.
She made her way over to the tills and took a second look at her rope. It was branded The Pleasant Company. She had hardly been keeping pleasant company these days. Thieves, murderers, psychopathic super-villains intent on taking over the world. You named them, she’d seen them. Hardly any time with her friends either. Tanith was possessed by a remnant, Ghastly had Elder business, and everybody knew who she was now and were avoiding her at any and all costs. Valkyrie felt that she would probably get more than glares if there wasn’t the threat of Skulduggery.
Skulduggery, her only friend in the world right now – except he wasn’t. She had six missed calls of the living skeleton and had only managed to placate him from coming to find her all guns blazing (literally) by texting him to say she was having dinner with her family. She walked out the store.
“The ones I’ll never see again.”
