Prologue
In the beginning, there were seven kingdoms in the land of Kanisa. Each Kingdom was home to a different race of people, each gifted with a different power from the Gods. To the north of Kanisa, in the highest mountains, lived the Kingdom of Brez. This kingdom belonged to the Atmospheric casters who could control the air and change the weather. Underneath these mountains, the underground Kingdom of Sunatos thrived as the nation for the Reapers. Reapers could summon an army of the dead and could also travel to the land of the dead and back without dying themselves. To the east of these mountains was the river Palimo, and across this river was the fertile land known as the Kingdom of Halante where the Agriculturers lived. They possessed the powers to increase any plants growth and manipulate the direction of its growth. They are also able to revive dead plants. Right next to Halante is the Kingdom of Tirhai. This was home to the Beasters, who could transform themselves into any animal or beast and could also summon an army of beasts to fight by their side. In the south of Kanisa, a race of people known as the Charmers lived in the kingdom of Phebur. Charmers were able to create potions based on recipes in special spell books that only they could read. This made them relatively powerful as their potions could have affects that last from one hour to an entire decade. Enchanters, who could chant powerful spells, lived in the Kingdom of Seregen which was situated in the sandy dunes towards the East of Kanisa. In between Seregen and Phebur was the kingdom of Rueanciau, where the Runers lived. Their power came markings and symbols drawn on their body which allowed them to do many things. In the centre of Kanisa, there was a place known as sanctuary. In the sanctuary, there were 7 pillars which connected the people to their powers. If a pillar went missing, an entire kingdom would have no powers and therefore these pillars were controlled by the most powerful beings known as the commanders. They had the power to control any being through their mind and read their thoughts. They always remained impartial when other kingdoms would fight and would ensure that no one could ever reach any of the pillars in Sanctuary.
For many centuries, the kingdoms of Kanisa all lived in peace and harmony with one another. Some kingdoms, such as Rueanciau and Sunatos, rarely used their magical abilities due to the painful process of skin marking that runers had to undergo and the difficulty of mastering the power of the reapers. However, other kingdoms, such as Seregen and Phebur, developed their knowledge of their powers further, creating more dangerous and damaging incantations and spells.
In the kingdom of Tirhai, giving birth to twins was forbidden as it would weaken both children and they would have to constantly work together to maintain the talents a regular Beaster would have. The king of Tirhai, Merist, insisted upon this notion, even within the royal family, in order to maintain the strongest population possible. They possessed that ability to connect with dragons, the strongest and fearest beasts, and each time a new ruler took the crown, a new dragon would be born. Marist’s eldest son, Anoto married a commoner from the Kingdom of Rueanciau and she quickly fell pregnant with his child. Her belly swelled much faster than most other pregnant women’s and she quickly realised that something was wrong. During the sixth month of her pregnancy, she fled Tirhai, never returning and leaving Anoto devastated.
