Chapter 1 Odessa
I woke up at the sound of my alarm going off and pull myself out of bed. While sitting at the side of my bed I rub my eyes and try to remember why I had set that hellish thing. Smoke didn't even open his eyes or moved his ears at the sound of that electronic nightmare. That old dog would keep sleeping even if the house burned down. While scratching his ears I suddenly remember why I had set the alarm clock and it made me jump up and run to my closet. Today was the last day of school before winter break and that meant it was time for breakfast at Rina's with my friends.
With all the snow that has been falling these past couple of days I decided on wearing dark grey jeans, a white sweater and my favorite boots. I just put on my sweater when my brother opens the door and walks in. "Oscar, you can't just walk into my room." "Why not? You're dressed and it's not as if you have anything that would interest me." He smirked at me, daring me to say something back. I grab a book fromt the floor and swing it to his head. Ofcourse the asshole catches it with ease and drops it back on the floor. "It's a matter of privacy not a matter of sexuality, you asswhipe!! By the way how is Marcus doing?" I grin at him knowing that he will drop the subject whenever someone brings up his ex. "Not cool little sis, not cool at all." He turns around and walks out of my room followed by Smoke when finally decided to start his day. I put on my boots and finished my hair and makeup before I went downstairs.
Mom was in the kitchen making breakfast for everyone. I greeted her and get myself some coffee, not a chance that I'm climbing behind the wheel without some caffeine in my system. She gives me a pointed look but doesn't say anything. "Ofcourse Oscar runs to mom whenever someone hurts his feelings. If you throw a punch you've got to know that you can receive one as well." I thought. Mom sighs and turns to me. "Odd, you know you shouldn't have said that to him. Wait! I don't say that what he did was right but is was a nasty thing and cheap thing to do. He should have respected your privacy but you shouldn't have gone to such length to hurt him. He is your brother, your family and family supports each other, okay?" "Yes mom, I'll apologize after school." "I'll also have a talk with him about respecting each others space." "He is 23 you would think he learned something at that age. But he still is a guy, right." "Odessa..." My mother warns. I quickly drink my coffee and grab mij backpack and Keyes and run out of the door.
I pull my car up at the parking lot of Rina's and make my way to the door. Rina's is a simple diner but it feels like home. It's a big space filled with round tables in te middle and benches, rectangular tables to the sides and at the far back there is a bar with some some bar stools. My group of friends are already seated at our usual round table on the far left side. It's one of the few tables that is standing in the middle of the morning sun, which was a demand from Kelsey when we started this tradition. She had to have her breakfast in the sun if she had to get up soooo early. I truelly love my friends but Kay and I never got that close. The reason she joint our group was because she has a longterm relationship with my best friend Samson, Sam. I walk up to the group and take my seat on Sam's left side and before I can even say hello to everyone a plate with bacon, eggs and sausage get put in front of me by Rina. I thank her and Sam and I give each other a wink, knowing he orderd my breakfast for me. Samson has been my best friend since kindergarten and we know everything about another, he is like a brother to me which says a lot since I have five of those already. Some people ask why we never dated but the idea alone gives us the creeps. Still I did feel a little sad when he started dating Kelsey four years ago. Not because I was jealous just that we didn't hang around so much anymore. Kelsey and Sam restarted their conversation with Brian and Melody while I started on my food. I absolutely loved meat so I worked everything down as fast as possible enjoying every last bite. Derrick started laughing at this and asked if I wanted seconds right away or take it to go. "I don't think we have time for seconds so I will ask Rina for a to go box. It's cheaper and tastier than the stuff they try to get us at school." "Odessa mabey you should watch what you eat. I mean you won't have this figure for long if you keep it up like this." Kelsey said with her fake sweet voice and o so innocent eyes. She always hated me because Samson pays her the same amount of attention as me, which is a thorn in her eye. I just wanted to give her a sassy response when two people came into the diner. One was an older man mabey 50 years old, the other was a guy of mabey 18-19. The young man didn't greet Rina when she welcomed them en just went to sit in a corner.
I didn't know what it was but there presence almost angered me but at the same time I couldn't look away from the guy. He had black hair and from what I could see bright green eyes. He looked my way and for a second our eyes met one another. I quickly looked away just to find my friends staring at me. "What something on my face?" "No, but you looked at that guy as if you wanted to take a bite out of him." Brian joked. At this comment Derrick tried to hit him and Sam told him to keep his mouth shut. "Alright let's go to school. Before Miss. Drooling overhere makes everybody late and gets us all in detention on the last schoolday before winterbreak." Kelsey said. We paid for our food and made our way to the cars. Melody, Derrick and Brian went with me since they all live close bij Rina's the walked from home to the restaurant. When I closed the door I looked ahead of me into the restaurant noticing that both the older man and the strange guy staring at me.
