Chapter 1
Lucy
"Lucy promise me you will take good care of the family and the business." Those were her fathers last words to her before he was dragged by the cops to serve his sentence and a week later they were informed that he committed suicide. He was charged and convicted for drugs and arms smuggling which was something he never did, as much as they were involved in some illegal business it sure wasn't this. Lucy knew that he was murdered in jail, she knew it very well that he would never kill himself. Her dad was set up and she was going to find that person and make them pay, but first she needed to take care of the business.
It had been two weeks since her father died and she had called a meeting with the staff to set out some ground rules. Most of them were not sure about a girl being their boss but she was no ordinary girl. She was her father's right hand lady for a reason. She had been involved in the family business for as long as she could remember. When other ten year old girls were begging their parents to buy them dolls she was telling her father to get a new gun for her. While they were playing with their dolls she was sharpening her shooting skills. When other 16 year old girls were planning on going to parties Lucy was planning on how they would get the next shipment.
"As all you know my father is no longer with us, I'm your new boss. I will really like for you to respect me like you did him," she said looking each and every man in the eyes. Most knew about her and what she was capable of but a few were skeptical. Those who had worked with her whenever her eyes made contact with theirs they quickly looked away but the others looked her with defiance in their eyes. She smiled as she knew that this was going to be fun cause what she was about to do next will surely prove them who she was. "So I'm also sure you know that my father was betrayed, so my other work is to bring out the moles." Will, do you mind bringing in our guest of honour to us." Will was her father's most trusted man, he was more like the son he never had and the younger brother Lucy never had. "Come in," said Will in a cold voice. Grace came in dragging a bloody man, he had gone through almost any torture by Lucy herself, Will and Grace helped a little. Grace is her cousin who had been with them since the age of 9 when her parents were killed. Grace's father was Lucy's father's brother. She took her as her sister and she was her bestfriend too.
"What we got here is a traitor who thought he could fool us and get away with it." "Please Lucy I beg of you let me go, they gave me a lot of money and due to my greed I accepted," the man begged. Pathetic if you are going to do something you must be prepared for the consequences, Lucy thought. "You know you were my dad's favorite Andy, but look how you repaid him." By that time Andy was sobbing like a baby. "Shut up! You pathetic fool," shouted a very angry Will. The room was quiet except for Andy's sobs. Most men knew what was about to happen.
"Andy what don't you tell everyone here what happened that night."
"Lucy I'm so sorry I didn't know your father will die."
She had heard enough so she signalled Will for the go ahead. In a blink of an eye he took out his army knife and slit Andy's throat right there. Almost everyone gasped.
She smiled, looks like they've established ground rules. "Now if you played a part in what happened, I'm gonna give you a headstart to run but please make sure you go to another planet where I won't be able to find you."
Sam
"Well come detective Cruz."
"Thank you captain, how I wish it was a pleasant visit."
Sam had been asked to work on a case for the Fairview police department. 3 policemen had been killed in a shootout and 2 were badly injured. This was also a very personal case to him as one of the cops who were killed was his cousin. His aunt was very devastated with this so Sam owed it to her to bring her son's killers to justice.
"How I wish that was so too," the captain sighed. "Anyways come let me introduce to your new partner." They went outside and the captain introduced him to his new partner. "Detective Cruz meet detective Green, your partner on this case." "Pleased to meet you but please call me Trey, Mr Green is my grandpa," the new guy said while shaking Sam's hand. "Trey will bring you up to date about the case, I'll leave you to it then." They spent five hours analyzing the evidence. One thing was clear for Sam, it would be very difficult to find the perpetrators as this town was home to one of the notorious criminals. There was the group that called themselves the Family, which was the group of the criminal masterminds. Almost every member was a suspect in this case but the most likely ones were the children of Kevin Smith who was arrested for dealing drugs who then killed himself.
"Hey Trey, I think we should go and question the Smith family because everything points at them."
"Yeah sure but if you ask me, we are wasting time."
"What you don't think it's them?"
"Look Detective Cruz, I grew up here and I can tell you that they had nothing to do with this."
"You are so sure of this, why," Sam was skeptical of this Trey now.
"OK let me tell you about the Family group. First and foremost they are related that's why they call themselves the Family but I won't bore you with their family history, I'm only going to tell you what you need to know now. The family is made up of the Smiths, the Blacks, the Sinnas and the Johnsons. The Johnsons are famous for the business of betting and gambling. The Sinnas are into the business of arms dealing, the Smiths are in the business of blood diamonds and the Blacks are into the business of drugs." Trey explained. "So you think this man was setup?" "Yes, not because he was not into drugs but because this people made a deal that each must stick to their own business. If Richard Smith was into drugs he would have been putting himself in danger of being kicked out of the Family." "The cops who were killed was because they took possession of the rare drugs."
This got Sam thinking, looks like this is going to be a very difficult case. "I still think we have to pay the Smiths a visit and see if they can give us information that may lead us to the people we want."
