Horror - the creature

First I will warn you that this story is ancient so bear with my interesting choice of vocabulary. Feel free to comment any problems you find with the story!

If the thing had fled from the house, why was a dead rabbit on the bathroom floor? Cam gripped the dusty shower curtain to overcome the nausea that hit her stomach like a wave.

"Nobody will know," Cam spoke under her breath like every time she found traces of the thing. She reached towards the crippled rabbit that lay frozen on the floor, dry blood was splattered across its pale face, and the dark indigo tile around the body.

Cam was just your average caretaker, she took care of the disabled old woman Mrs. Cindy Parker who supposedly was psychotic. Cam didn't blame her for her odd outbursts and measly diet, she had seen her own sister die before her in this room.

In the house, they didn't talk about the thing that looked through the mirror at you, the monster that dragged blood across the carpet, or smiled at you in the dark. They didn't talk about much really, just the news and weather occasionally.

Cam peeled its body off the floor and wrinkled her nose, a big black centipede was embedded in the hole in its chest and had nearly slithered halfway out before she grabbed a nearby toothbrush and stabbed it, breaking it into two limp pieces.

She liked to believe everything was normal. That's how people kept themselves sane in this world. There had been more than one incident happen in Graspurg city where mysterious human-sized things jumped on cars and tore the metal roof off with its teeth. It had been caught on traffic cameras, in mostly deserted areas. it made Cam's stomach drop to think about what happened next. It ate the kids up. It didn't like kids Because kids can see it all the time. Adults stopped believing in it, making it hard for them to see it at times. But we know.

The monster was supposed to be gone, there were no kids, nothing for it to hunger for. Cam held the rabbit upside down, her two fingers barely holding its foot.

To the garbage. She was nearly out the door before Mrs. Cindy slowly made her way across the room to her, her back was hunched and her eyes were wild.

"It came again?" She rasped as loudly as possible. The room was filled with suffocating silence.

"No ma'am, a neighborhood cat dragged it through the window. What did I tell you about leaving that open?" Cam spoke as calmly as possible as to not upset the fragile woman.

"Don't lie to me!" The woman screamed abruptly, anger boiling to the surface of her scarlet red face. Cindy reached out her frail arm and grabbed the bloody rabbit, throwing it at Cam.

Cindy let out an exasperated wail, before beginning to sob into her blood-stained hands.

"I hate you! I hate you! I hate you!!" Cindy's pale blue eyes darted to her accusingly through her fingers. Cam masked her anger and wept the remains of the rabbit off her skirt. Her new skirt.

"It's ok ma'am." Cam held out her arm as comfort. Cindy seemed to calm momentarily before storming out of the room muttering strange words under her breath.

Cam scraped the bunny off of her and the floor before heading outside to throw it over the fence for the neighborhood bloodhounds.

I'm sure they'll like rabbit scraps. After Cam was satisfied with watching the dogs go berserk, she swiftly found her way back inside.

A soapy bucket of watered down bleach sat waiting by the couch for its next use. They seemed to use it quite frequently so they never put it away.

Cam grabbed a rag and scrubbed the floor till her hands were raw and her knees were splintered. When the old cuckoo clock screamed and coughed she knew it was twelve.

Time to get out of this place. Cam smiled at the thought. It's not like she wanted to help Mrs. Cindy. She was forced to by the law, after a shoplifting gig gone wrong. She was just sixteen when she got charged for stealing at a local grocery store. At that time she was homeless due to the death of her mother who was her caretaker. Cam's dad had mysteriously disappeared after that leaving her to die.

She had to do service for one year, and this was her service. I'm turning seventeen in three days, I'll be out of here!

That was until something grabbed her neck.
