Chapter 1
Olivia
A drop of rain hits the window and I watch as it slowly slides down the glass. The trees dance back and forth from the wind and more rain begins to fall.
“Looks like it’s going to storm.” Aunt Clara says, causing me to look over at her.
“Does it always rain here?” I ask.
“You’ll get used to it sweetheart.” She smiles sweetly. “It’s not that bad here.”
On other circumstances maybe it wouldn’t be so bad here. Like if I was just visiting Aunt Clara, but now I’m going to be living with her. Two weeks ago, my parents died in a car crash and now my whole world is turned upside down. I used to live where it was sunny and warm and now, I’m forced to live here in Moon Crest where it’s cold and raining ninety percent of the time. I haven’t seen Aunt Clara in almost five years. She’s really nice but I know that she’s never wanted kids and now she’s stuck with me. Luckily, I’m seventeen so I can pretty much take care of myself. Aunt Clara and I look nothing alike. She has curly blonde hair and brown eyes. She’s plump and tall, with peach colored skin. She looks a lot like my dad actually. I got all my looks from my mom. I have long dark red hair, bright blue eyes, pale skin with freckles covering me and I’m short and curvy. We pull up in front of Aunt Clara’s house and she helps me bring my bags inside.
“It’s not much but it’s home.” She smiles. “Come on, I’ll show you your room.”
I follow her through the kitchen and living room, down the hallway until she stops at a door. She opens it up revealing a decent sized bedroom. There’s a dresser, nightstand and bed with a light purple quilt on top of it.
“There’s a closet in here and right across from you is the bathroom. My bedroom is on the other side of the kitchen so you’ll have plenty of space to yourself.” Aunt Clara says.
“Thank you.” I set my bags onto the floor and sit down on the bed.
“Do you want help unpacking?” She asks me.
“No thanks.” I shake my head and she smiles sadly at me.
“How about I order us some pizza? It’s the best in town.”
“Okay.” I shrug.
“Olivia.” She sighs, sitting down next to me. “I know things are hard right now but they will get better. School starts next week and then you can make some new friends. Things will get back to normal very soon.”
I want to yell at her. I want to scream from the top of my lungs that things will never be normal again. My parents are dead, nothing will ever be the same way that it once was. Instead I just nod my head and she pats my hand.
“I’ll let you unpack sweetheart and I’ll go order the pizza.” She leaves the room and I lay down on my back, looking up at the cracked ceiling. My eyes sting from unshed tears and I just let them fall. I grab a pillow and shove my face into it, silently crying.
