Chapter 1
Briiiiiing!
Lunch period, a time in every high school where students take half an hour to an hour of recreational and social activities. But this high school wasn't like any of the others. Sure it had standard classes and lunch periods but it was bigger and because of that, some things went overlooked. Bad things. Even though all the students shared common interests and participated in the same classes, there is one student somewhere, and they're different in one way, they were, how you say, odd.
This student's name is Semiah Ember, a sixteen-year-old young woman. She was diagnosed with a breathing disorder at the age of three. Her father, Richard Ember moved from Michigan and became a famous scientist in Oklahoma after being the youngest scientist to use certain patterns of evolution to turn into a non-human form and change back using specific chemicals in the brain. Unfortunately, he was not loved by all. His partner, Dr. Harold James Floyd, was not only somewhat jealous but also angry with Richard. They were running a chemical test when Semiah was just thirteen. Harold's curious son, Lucas roamed into the lab. Bumping into a button, he administered the wrong chemical into the chamber and set it off. The doctors made it out of the building safe, but Lucas died of terrible burns and chemical exposure.
Grieving from agony, he made plans to kill Richard Ember. He made it look like he tried convincing Richard not to make a killer weapon, and that he would protect the world from harm and chemical war made by crazed scientists. He was sent to jail after shooting an innocent family. His younger son, Gabriel, goes to Semiah's school, the Science and Technological Academy (STA) and has been torturing her ever since. He called himself, Greyhound because of his "vicious" behavior. He would be the big bully, but Semiah, would always get in his way. He hated it, and she knew it.
A day came as she was recollecting her father's last words he spoke before he died in her arms. She had a talent that emerged after her father died. She could sense anything or anyone that was moving toward her with her eyes closed. Today, she sensed Greyhound and his group before they even turned the corner to the field, before he even had a chance to yell across the field. She stood up and turned around as Greyhound walked right up to her, getting his face as close as he could to hers.
"I'm pretty sure, this is our territory," he said, glaring with his black holes for eyes.
"Really?", Solar replied sarcastically, "I don't see a name here, much less a calling card."
Grey's face went hard to find an answer. When he came up with nothing, he simply got redder in the face. She took the opening;
"For the record, that insult there was the best effort I've ever heard from you."
Grey suddenly gave a snort while replying "Wrong again pup, you were the insult."
She only stared into his eyes before responding.
"To whom, think carefully, Tick."
"Your dad, that's why he's dead, right." He then started to laugh in a mocking tone.
While he was busy laughing, she launched her fist at his face. He fell backward hard, a bruise already forming under his left eye. She stopped, her heart pounding with anger and her hand throbbing from the punch. She had to stop, but he deserved it, but this is not what her father would have wanted. She turned, focusing on nothing but her breathing. She felt the need to say one last thing.
"Next time you mention my father, I'll do worse than that. You're just like your father, trying to look like the good guy, I bet he's proud to have a son just as dull. Pathetic." She started to walk away, but the rest of the group seized her from behind. She was forced towards the small alley made by the school and the old bank and waited for Greyhound as he got up and rubbed the dirt off his clothes. He walked to the alley and picked up an old garbage can lid that rolled into that alley the week before. He took the lid and, like a hammer, swung it at Semiah's face, she could feel blood dripping down her cheek.
"That didn't prove anything." She said.
He motioned for the group to let her go. She was walking out of the ally when he lunged at her, to which she attempted to shift to her left, hoping to trip him and have him fall into the stack of carts. She failed as she slipped and fell on her back. Grey grabbed her, pinned her arms under his legs, and continually punched her. When he was satisfied that he did enough damage, he stood up to pull her halfway up by her shirt.
"You have no chance of beating me and yet you still think you can try to kick my a____? You're the one who's stupid."
Semiah tried to keep her conciseness.
"Yea, your mom probably thought the same of you before she left you, you mother friker!" She retorted.
He slugged her in the stomach and let her crumple into a ball, keeping back the tears. He then picked her up and went through the ally to the back of an abandoned theater building so they were not to be seen. He then threw her hard on the floor, she cried out as she felt her upper back burst in pain. They walked back to the campus, leaving her as she started to blackout. The bell rang, classes were commencing.
