Chapter One

A sick person has only one prayer; to get healed. Becky's key prayer during the time their school was closed was to be quickly re-opened in order for her to be able to finish her National Diploma before her pregnancy would become obvious.

As if God wanted to use the closure of the school to punish her, her thoughts were that before the end of the month, the school would be re-opened. But she was later shocked when the closure of the school was later extended into four months. The fourth month was going to an end when the school was re-opened, then, Becky's pregnancy had become easily noticeable.

The shame of carrying the pregnancy to school made her forgo her Nationa Diploma and patiently bore the burden which her misdeed had brought.

Dennis, whose arrival to the world could have been a joy to his parents and family if his mother hadn't trod the path of immorality, came with heavy burden placed upon his shoulders. The burden of no father that would take up his responsibility and the hatred from his grandfather for the hope he had that had been betrayed by the child's mother due to the impetuous pregnancy she brought home from the school.

Becky later learnt tailoring for two years in their environs and after she did graduation, she met her own suitor whom, if not what had happened, she wouldn't have accepted his proposal.

Dennis was going to three years when his mother married. His mother's husband didn't accept to take over the boy's responsibility. So, Becky's mother later decided to shoulder the responsibility of her grandchild, though her husband was against the decision.

"Never expect me to spend a dime on the child," Dennis' grandpa vowed to the child's grandma.

It was tough and rough for both Dennis and his grandma. Though Becky promised to be given grandma certain amount at the end of every week, she couldn't hold on to her promise as time moved on.

Grandma believed that every child came with their own blessings and that was the reason why grandma did not mind every money she spent on the child. She preferred to sell her belongings for the child to be well-fed or to pass through some sufferings for the child's well-being.

Dennis started his primary educatin when he was 5-year old in a public primary school in their vicinity. His grandma spent all the expenses. She bought him books, uniform, bag, and every other thing he would be in need of in the school.

Dennis was in primary two when Chief Erikson was campaigning for his senatorial seat. His campaign shook every corner of his senatorial district. Dennis' mother heard about one of the campaigns and was resolved to attend the program with the child.
