Chapter 1

Another bright sunny day, Neil thought to himself. The weather was always in direct contrast with his mood on his appointment days. Why can’t it just rain once.

The sun seemed to be moking him. Intentionally brightening up the place making it seem like there was no reason for anyone to worry or be in a horrible mood.

However, this was not so, Neil had all the right in the world to be depressed. He had no idea why he still went to these appointments anyway, when they always made him feel worse than he constantly felt. Not to mention that they served no purpose, other than to use up his money and make his mom happy.

Neil scowled just thinking of it. He placed his hands in his pocket and started walking in the direction of his house. He lived in a house in Manhattan, which was in walking distance from where he was at the moment.

In a couple of months he wouldn’t be here anyway and there was nothing anyone could do about it.

As much as his mother thought his weekly appointments would prolong this departure, she was just deluding herself and he constantly reminded her of that. She was stubborn that one, always believing that miracles can happen.

Neil sighed and kept walking. He kept his head down promising himself that he would stop this train of thought.

“Ouch!! That’s hot!!” he cried a couple of minutes later. A black haired, tall girl had ran directly into him in her haste to get to God knows where. The coffee she held had slipped and fell all over his white dress shirt. Neil scowled at the girl.

“Would it hurt you to watch where the hell you’re going?!!” he shouted, lifting his head and looking into a pair of light brown eyes. The brown eyes looked away from him guiltily. “I’m sooo sorry.” She said “ I’m late for work. I’m trying to get into the building before the manager notices I’m missing or before one of my miserable co-workers brings it to his attention. I wasn’t looking at where I was going and for that I apologise.”

Neil stared the girl down not accepting her apology. The look he gave her could have frozen over a forest fire. Wouldn’t that be great for Australia. They had had a continuous bout of fires from the ending of last year into the beginning of this year. To think all they needed to do was bring this guy over and have him stare at the fires.

Sneering Neil walked away bumping into the girls shoulder as he went, giving no thought to how rude he was being.
